giving out bank info.... -
December 19th 2010, 01:31 PM
So, i've given out my bank details to several people so they can transfer money into my account.
Basically, they have my account number and sort code Is this safe? What information do people need to withdraw money? Thanks Just one smile makes you think i'm happy... why won't just one tear make you realise i'm not? x

I'm pretty sure this is fine, they'd need your PIN code to be able to withdraw any money

They'd need to know your PIN, or have identification with them to prove that they are you, which of course they can't, so I'd say you're safe [:

If they try to withdraw money out your bank they'd either need a PIN number, I.D or be able to do your signature.
I think you're pretty safe. But if this concerns you then maybe in future think about using something like paypal instead

What I do when I have people put money into my acount I just tell them to go to the bank and tell the teller my name and then they can put it in my acount without giving alot of info.

yeah account number and sort code is info you can get off the card anyway - so it's fine. it's like if you lost your card and someone found it, they couldn't do much without your PIN.

I'd say it's safe. Like everyone else said, just keep your PIN private. Do you have online banking? I do, and so I know that you can transfer money between accounts, you just need to know each other's account numbers for that.

There is a chance, depending how much info needs to be told, someone could order stuff online using your card. They usually need the expiry date, which is on your card also. But they usually need other things such as birth date and address. Having that, they can order things using your card and in doing so, deplete the money on your card. Many cards have spending limits so they cannot drain all your money. However, even having all this info, they cannot go to a bank and get money directly as they need the PIN. Online shopping may or may not need your PIN.
I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
