Red to blonde hair -
April 19th 2011, 09:44 AM
Hi guys
![]() I was just wondering if there is anyway to go back to blonde after dying your hair red? I can imagine its tricky so I will probably get it done at the hairdressers to avoid green hair or something

i dont know about going back to blond but i went back to brown after having red and it took dying my hair about six times before the red stopped coming back. i would dye it brown and it faded back to red every time! i know that red dye is VERY difficult to get rid of. the best thing to do would be to go to a hairdresser.

You might have to bleach it, otherwise its going to turn out a strawberry blonde. I recommend going to a professional though, because that way you can get the exact color you want

They might be able to strip the color from your hair. Back in January I had my hair black (it was that way for over 2 years) and the hairdresser striped the color from my hair and I went to red/brown at that point. So yeah that may work, and it depends on how blonde you want to go.

I had red hair a few months back and I still have a reddish tinge to my brown hair even after dying over it etc. so bleaching would get your hair back to blonde but once the bleach fades a bit the red might show through a little. Red's notoriously hard to dye over.
I agree with Alix about hair stripping. That would be your best option but it can be pricey. There are home kits available now but like you Nicole said probably best to get it done by a professional. Hope it turns out okay

Well my mum asked a hair dresser and she said there were 2 things we could do:
1) strip my hair, but that has bleach and other chemicals that would kill my hair. Then after I could try and dye it again Or 2) I could dye my hair a medium brown, then while the blonde is growing back through get highlights. I think this is what I'm going to do. Basically I can keep use highlights to lighten it and eventually I guess I could dye it blonde so that when my natural colour comes through it will not look bad What do you guys think? |

I like the idea of getting highlights.

This is actually what happened to me
![]() I had red hair and want it back blonde. I dyed it brown (it was okay but still slightly red), dyed it brown again and I'll be getting highlights soon
