Ear cartilage - February 1st 2011, 05:29 AM

I want to get my upper ear peirced, on the cartilage. One or two.
I have a couple questions:

1. How much did it hurt, Truthfully?

2. How many would you get. On each ear or one ear?

3. What type of earring would be the best first one?

Also if you know anything about nose piercings, my friend is interested in getting one so I guess just answer the 3 questions above about nose piercings?

Thanks!

Hey,
I have my cartilage pierced so I can answer your questions.

1. It didn't hurt at all to get it pierced. However, pain varies person to person.

2. If you have a favorite side to sleep on, then I recommend only getting one.

3. Ask your piercer what they are going to use. I recommend going to a tattoo and piercings shop because they will pierce it with a needle there. At other places, it will be pierced with a gun which isn't the best idea.

Re: Ear cartilage - February 1st 2011, 05:36 AM

I just got mine done 2 weeks ago

1. How much did it hurt, Truthfully?
It barely hurt. I got mine done with a needle and I could feel that sharp pain, but it was like muted (if that makes sense) so on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a 3

2. How many would you get. On each ear or one ear?
I only got one on my left ear but I might get a 2nd one some day. I recommend getting them on only one ear at a time because you can't really sleep on them without them hurting.

3. What type of earring would be the best first one?
Well studs can stab your neck if you lie on them so I say hoops. Thats what I got when I first got mine pierced and its actually better for your ear in terms of healing as it allows for more room which reduces swelling.

I don't know anything about nose piercings, sorry.

Cartilage:

1. How much did it hurt, Truthfully?
Very little. It was relatively painless.

2. How many would you get. On each ear or one ear?
I have 2 on one ear, but to each their own. Some people like symmetry, others don't.

3. What type of earring would be the best first one?
Thats up to the piercer. Though, they usually put in studs.

Nose:

1. How much did it hurt, Truthfully?
Pretty painless, unless your nose gets really cold right after piercing. Don't walk places in the winter with a fresh nose piercing.

2. How many would you get?
Uhm, one..? Some people get two.

3. What type of earring would be the best first one?

The piercer will usually put in a corkscrew stud at first. I think thats because they are the hardest to lose. They are a bitch to take out, but I used a YouTube video to figure it out and got the hang of it.

Dont get cartilage pierced with a gun, apparently its meant to shatter the cartilage and that really does not sound good at all!

Very true. In fact, piercers frown upon the use of piercing guns in general these days. But yeah, if your cartilage shatters, it won't heal. I had my cartilage pierced with a gun AGES ago, and it didn't stop hurting for months. I took it out, let it sit for about a year, re-pierced with a needle and it was fine.

So yeah, if they try to pierce your ear with a gun, DON'T LET THEM!

Not only are guns risky, they aren't as sanitary as needles are. And I heard they are more painful.
