Unhappy How to stop being (or at least feeling) pathetic - November 13th 2015, 10:39 PM

I feel like I suck at everything I do. I feel ashamed when I'm doing my best bc of how bad it is. In the beginning I could appreciate the irony but now I'm sick of laughing at myself
Examples of why I feel pathetic;
* I'm a coward when it comes to happiness. I'm scared I don't deserve it and then I get mad at myself for not taking the chance
* I'm only existing. The only thing I've accomplished or given to the world so far is small pep talks and bad jokes
* I keep comparing myself to others (wich never ends well) but I think I'm doing that on purpose automatically, and I don't try to change that
I'm tired of myself, but what I think is worse is how strongly I feel that my life is meaningless
I know this is an impossible question (I've already googled it) & that almost all my threads are either same topic & different words or vice versa, but I'd really appreciate any advice I can get

Re: How to stop being (or at least feeling) pathetic - November 13th 2015, 11:49 PM

Well, hello there .

My name is Hamed and I am a member here, former volunteer. I want to begin this response by defining the word "pathetic". Pathetic, in it's form, means "being worthy of sympathy or empathy". That is not such a bad thing if you ask me! If someone feels for you, then they are generally more inclined to help you. They generally care about you and they know you want to improve and learn from any mistakes.

Those achievements are pretty awesome in themselves. I mean I spend my time making people feel better (or at least trying so) and that may be defined as being a pep talk. Those pep talks can be the highlights of someone's day, week, or year. I still remember some of the talks that were given at my school. And jokes?

Why are mountains so funny?
Because they're "hill-areas" .

What's the different between an equation and a hard place?
One breaks your bones and the other breaks your brain.

I suppose also, that comparing yourself to others can be extremely helpful, but depending on who you choose. Speaking to people on here, for example, can help you determine the fact that there are other people out there who feel alone, or as you put it, pathetic. This is a site designed for people who are feeling the way you do or similar, and you know that, because you came here, knowing that people have come here for advice in the past.

Compare yourselves to people who have made threads here, so you do not feel alone, and then go down to see the responses, and try all of them. That's the best I can give you .
