Places to Sell Old Books - July 22nd 2009, 10:26 PM

Well I have a lot of children's books from years ago that I want to sell to make some money, any ideas where to sell them?
I've tried Amazon Marketplace but by the time you've listed your item at the lowest price your in negative figures. In my opinion Amazon take too much money off you, they charge you for listing the item and then they take the P&P price aswell.
I've tried ebay but none of my books are selling and I don't want to keep paying listing fees if they aren't going to sell.
I've tried play.com but none of my books are on there so I can't sell them there.

I'm not just looking for websites if anyone knows any shops that are UK based then I'd like to know those aswell or any other places that buy old books(which is why I put this in general not technology)

I don't really think any stores in my town would buy them, that's why I wondered if anyone in other areas knew any stores that I could go to so I can sell them.

Ebay? You could get a good deal if they're valuable.

Yeah most of them are in pretty good condition.

And Faith, I checked the books prices on ebay and they're only going for about 1.

Re: Places to Sell Old Books - July 22nd 2009, 10:58 PM

I had the same problem and couldn't find anywhere to sell them and eBay was useless.

In the end I gave them to younger family members, library and charity shops because it wasn't worth it to sell them on eBay and I couldn't find anywhere else that would buy them.

I looked into car boot sales but the ones where I live you have to pay to get in and sell your stuff, I probably would have got 50p - 2 a book and because of the fee to get in I wouldn't make much of a profit and it wouldn't have been worth it.

I thought of that but can't get anyone to take me to one and I don't think there's any around where I live within walking distance, not that I'd want to walk with loads of books anyway.

I know that I have a used book store in my area, maybe you could search online for local bookstores in your area? If you find a used bookstore then you should be able to sell them there.

I'd look into the car boot sale idea - the fees may be different in different areas. You could consider asking a favour from someone if you have no one to take you there.

Ebay and Amazon aren't the only online sites where you can sell your old books - there are options such as play.com and other sites (a quick google search does give you other sites which sell old books) such as Green Metropolis.

Another idea might be to join a site such as ReadItSwapIt or BookMooch where you could swap your old books for other, different books.

You could try asking your friends or family members if they're interested in buying some of your books - you could make a few sales there if your friends are willing to pay for them.

I use Amazon to sell my old books. It is friendly and easy to use.
I've never had an issue with it.
Otherwise what others have suggested.

You so got that idea off me

Anyway, your best bet around here is probably car boot sales. If you can't get to do one yourself then do you have a friend or relative who does them regularly? Maybe they could take them and give ou the money back for how much they sold.

If that doesn't work I'm pretty pretty sure there is a second hand book shop in Nottingham somewhere that would buy the books off of you. (I can't remember the location sorry)
