Exclamation Please help me decide what to do / where to go in the world - July 25th 2009, 04:51 AM

Ok this will probably be a bit lenghty so just bear with me. I've lived in the United States all my life. I just turned 18 this past sunday. I had surgery on my foot about 3 weeks ago due to baseball and it'll be a long time before I'm recovered. I start college next month and begin my life in the real world. However I'm not liking it....

Its not that I dont think I'm ready for it, Im very smart (classified as gifted in high school) and not scared of a challenge. But I think there's more out there for me. Why should I stay where I was born on Earth when there's a whole world out there. I've always had an interest in seeing more of the world so why not start early?

I have no clue what I want to do in life. I know everyone says you'll have enough time to decide in college, but if I do that I think I'll just settle with something that'll make money or that I'm good at. But I want to go out there on my own and live life. I dont have to make a lot of money, as long as I enjoy it that'll be enough.

Anyways, I do have a few places in mind (Japan, Australia, maybe South Korea, etc.), but I'm not limited to just those. I won't be back in full health until about a year so I have time. If anyone can help me out or just give their opinion I'd be forever in their debt .

If you have an opinion or words of insight, please share them. If you have any country in mind you think would be great for me, let me know please. Any information or links to info about everything I'm asking, I'd love for you to share. This is very important to me and my future so I'd appreciate anything you can give me.

About the country, I'm not too picky but here are a couple guidelines:

I'd be fine with having to learn another language, but I'd still like to use English as well.

A relatively cheap cost of living would be great seeing as I'm not exaclty rich at 18.

Nice people, scenery, and of course job oppurtunities are also factors.

As stated before any and all help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I've always wanted to go to New Zealand.. i just think it looks and sounds so amazing :] i don't think the cost of living is too expensive there and you wouldn't have the language barrier [although i know you don't mind.]

Also.. what about travelling to South America a bit?. somewhere like Brazil or Argentina?.

Other than that i think Japan would be an amazing experience, and China to see the great wall

obviously.. you should go to London too. its awesome here! other places to see in Europe are definitely Paris, Rome & Berlin.

I've lived in the US, Germany [Berlin], Russia [Moscow], Turkey [Ankara] & UK [London] so if you have any specific questions about any of those i can probably help?.

..and our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears..

Maybe I'll do that. Instead of just choosing one place to live I might just stay different countries for a few months or a year at a time. If that's the case I will probably start with new Zealand or australia. Somewhere that doesn't require too much adjustment.
