What to do... - August 7th 2009, 09:16 PM

I am speechless and I need help on what to do...
Ok so this morning I wake up and noone is home, so I turn on the TV and watch it. About 30mins after the phone rings I answer it, it went something like this...
ME-Hello
THE OTHER-Andrea! help I am in trouble!
ME-Who is this??
THE OTHER-I need your help they are going to hurt me!
ME- Hello?
THE OTHER-Help me!
....
Nothing eles. I am worried because what if it is someone I know and they are in trouble?
But it could also be a prank, maybe I don't know.
Here are a little facts in general...
*I live in Mexico where kipnaps are high.
*I don't give my phone number to my friends, just my cellphone.
*Police don't do anything.
*It could be for real.
*Or not

What can I do??
Any advice.

I'm assuming they hung up when you say nothing else? If so, could you ring them back and ask what was going off? If you can't or you do and nothing happens I'd just leave it as there isn't much else you can do. You don't know who they are to talk to them about it plus you don't want to get yourself into trouble and for all you know it could in fact be a prank call. Unless you hear anything else, I'd just do nothing or maybe ask your friends about it to see if they know anything.

Wow, that's super weird. I can imagine you'd be a bit nervous. I agree with what's been said, though. Try calling back the number, and see if anyone answers. If they call repeatedly, regardless if you think it's a prank or not, you could always report it. Seeing as that's not exactly an amusing prank phone call if that's what it is. There's not really much you can do other than that though. It could just be some idiot from school who got your number off one of your friends or something.

The number appeared as "private" so I can't call back. Unless I go to the company of phones and ask for the number...
But what really got me off guard was the fact that they knew my name. I mean I have a sister and we look the same and talk the same, why didn't they say my sisters name or how did they know it was me.

It could possibly be a prank, I mean, stuff like that has happened to friends of mine before.

If it was somebody you knew (well enough for them to call you when they're in trouble) then I'm sure you'd have heard if they were missing etc. by now. [:

Couldn't hurt to call up the phone company, though.

Hi Andrea,

That's really weird, I'd consider going to the phone company and explain to them whats going on. I don't know if they will tell you what the number of the person is, I would also try to contact the police, I know that they might not do anything, but this could be something more serious. Did you recognize the voice at all on the other end?

Call the police. They have people who can get the number and call back. It could be a prank... Or it could be someone in trouble.

If they know your name and private number, there is a good chance that they know you. But based on the info given, there isn't much you can do about it. I agree that you either go to the phone company to try to get the number or try to remember and recognize the voice.

I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh what did I say.
Well you just laughed it off, it was all ok.

And we'll all float on, ok."

Re: What to do... - August 11th 2009, 05:16 AM

Well, tommorrow morning I am going to call the phone company and ask for the number. But that's about it I am leaving in the morning to go to Mexico City for a week and after that I will see if it was a prank or for real...
I mean I can't physical do anything about it, the police isn't the best here so I will just wait and see what it unfolds to.
Thanks for all your answers guys

I would just like to add that it's odd that they didn't say their name. If you were in trouble and phoning a friend for help, wouldn't you be like "Oh my god, it's [your name here], please help me!" ? Especially after you asked who it was--even if they got carried up in their emotions right away, after it became obvious you didn't know who it was, they would have said.
