What would you choose? -
April 4th 2010, 05:13 AM
My friends and I were having a discussion about this at lunch time, I know what I think...but what would you do in these situations.
1. You are walking alongside a railway track, and come across a point where the tracks split into two. You then see a train coming, the track is set to go on path one. You look down path one and see 5 people tied to the train tracks, you then look down path two, and see one person tied to the tracks. Do you leave the train to kill 5 people, or change it to kill only one? -The people are all complete strangers to you -You can easily change the path of the train -You do have enough time to make the desicion and change the tracks -You cannot stop the train!!! 2. You and 3 friends are captured on an island by pirates. The pirates say you can either kill one friend, or all three. If you kill just one, that friend will know you made the decision. Either way you can get free. So, do you choose a friend to be killed...or let all 3 die? -If all 3 are to be killed, none of them know it was your decision -They are ALL equal to you, you like all of them the exact same 3. You are in a group of 6 friends and are all very close. Would you rather lose all your friends, or lose your mum. -You are very close to your mum (if anyone reading this isn't, try and think of it as another family member you are close to) This thread isn't menat to offend anyone in any way! Please, if it does offend you, or is somehow against the TOS, please remove it! It is just some questions I had a discussion about! I am a Proud Kiwi =)

WOW!
Firstly, I would rather save 5 than 1 because 5 is more and special than single. Secondly, I would rather be dead than hurt all 3. I wouldn't be able to dream them as my mum, my sister and my boyfriend. As I rather die than have them 3 dead. Thirdly, I rather lose all my friends and keep my mum. Because like, we're not very close and everyone else in my family are distant but I know how it feels, as friends go but family stay in the heart. |

1. I would choose the five people, better to save more lives.
2. I'm not really sure, I might choose one so that the others would have a chance at living. 3.This one, is really hard. I almost want to say my mum or other figure, since we've never been very close and there's no way I could do without my friends. It's tough, though. "Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |

1) I would change it to save the 5 people
2) I would choose a friend to kill 3) Hardest one to answer but I'd probably save my mum. Except my mum would tell me to choose my friends. So I don't know! (RAH)² + (AH)³ + RO(MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH + (LA)² = Bad Romance

1. I would save the five people.
2. I would kill one. There's no need to kill more than one. 3. Without a doubt I would save my mum. She is more than a friend. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it." ~ The Buddha 14-04-2010. 1. I would untie the one person and change the direction of the train to that path
(if that's possible)2. I'd refuse to make the decision 3. Refuse to make that one too, hate questions like that

1. If I couldn't save the one person tied up in time, then I'd save the five other people...
2. I'd do "ee-ni, me-ni, mine-ee, mo" and pick a friend that way. 3. Save my mother. ![]() |

1.... If I had enough time, I would definitely untie the one person and then switch the train tracks so that no one would get hurt.
2 .... I would kill myself so that I wouldn't have to kill any of my friends. 3 .... I don't know. ): This question makes me sad. I might be crazy. But have I told you lately that I love you? You're the only reason that I'm not afraid to fly. <3 |

1. I would feel guilty because it's really not up to me to decide who lives and dies.. and if I couldn't untie the one person and switch tracks, I'd probably save the five
![]() 2. It's easy to say that I would kill a friend. But to actually decide which friend to kill... that'd be an impossible decision. I'm stuck on this one. 3. It's selfish to kill 6 people but I would save my Mum. ![]() I've been seeing you in my dreams lately But you're always on the periphery, Out of reach. NEED TO VENT? CLICK HERE. 1) This is probably really harsh, but I think I would let nature take it's course - if the train is set to kill 5 people, then that is what it is set to do. It may not be morally right - but I couldn't change it and be left with the guilt of that.
2) I would either refuse to make the decision, or ask them to take my own life instead of theirs. OR if that wasn't an option then I would do what Amy would do. 3) I HATE this question. I would have to save my Mum I guess - but I'd probably commit sucicde if I lost my friends to be honest. I'm still alive.
Must have been a miracle It's been one hell of a ride Destination still unkown It's a fact of life: If you make one wrong move with a gun to your head You better walk the line or you'll be left for dead. I'm a runaway train on a broken track I'm the ticker on the bomb that you can't turn back Thats right. I got away with it all and I'm still alive. Let the end of the world come tumbling down. I'll be the last man standing on the ground As long as hot blood runs through my veins I'm still alive. |

1- Going with the fact that it's 5 against 1, I would try to save the most people I can.
2- I would ask my friends for their opinions but I probably would sacrifice myself I can’t really picture me killing one of my friends. 3- I would save my mom, I could not imagine what my life would be without her =/ Wow that was hard… Everyone is born right-handed. Only the greatest overcome it. |

I can't answer two or three.
However for question 1, I would put the switch halfway between the tracks, causing the train to derail and go between path 1 and 2, everybody saved.

This is something I'm not really comfortable thinking about or answering, to be honest, but for question one, for some reason my initial instinct would be to save the single person. I really don't know why. I know people are saying 'oh five lies are better than one...' but I'm just imagining how horrible it would be to die on your own like that.....maybe I'm just thinking into it too much. I don't like these questions.

1) If i'm understanding this right i would have to change the direction of the train to kill the 1 person, so if i didn't interfere that person would live. hmm, i wouldn't change the direction. I couldn't do that knowing that it would kill that person who would live otherwise.
2) i don't know. 3) Save my mum. |

Hm, all really tough.
1. Honestly, I probably wouldn't move it. I'd be too scared. ![]() 2. I'd talk it through with everyone. I couldn't make a decision like that alone. 3. My friends. God, I hope my mum never sees this lol. I'm not 100% sure on my answers, 'cause those are really hard questions. Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us - champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world is as it should be, to show it what it can be. |
