Birth Certificate. - April 19th 2010, 11:03 PM

Okay so obviously i need a copy of my birth certificate to get my drivers license/take the test. Or an ID and i don't have either. I need to know how to get another copy. My mom doesn't know where she has placed mine. Where do i start? If anyone could help me out that would be great.

Yeah I've tried to get a regular ID at the DMV. But they told me that you need to show your birth certificate before hand.

You need to show your birth certificate there? Here they prefer you to show you a passport or something like that =/
And do you need to ring up the hospital you were born in or something like that? I honestly have no idea =/

The courthouse may have a copy. They keep copies of birth/death certificates.

You can go to the county recorder's office in the county where you were born.

The Office of Vital Records or County Recorder's Office (in the county where you were born) are the two places you can obtain a replacement birth certificate (certified). You'll probably need a social security card and/or proof of identity (a parent's ID may count as proof of identity, as long as you're not well past 18). If you don't have a SS card you're in a catch-22. You need one to get the other, usually. Knowing your SSN may suffice, though. Google "New birth certificate CA" or something similar, and you'll find helpful links.
