saying 'i love you' - April 24th 2010, 05:30 AM

im not sure if this goes here, but i didnt know where else to put it..

anyways,
saying 'i love you'
i find it incredibly awkward to say 'i love you'
whether if its be text, email, letters... or in person.
i hardly EVER say 'i love you' because of i find it weird..
i just feel awkward saying it and after i say it..
i find it awkward to hear also.
maybe its because, youre suppoed to say 'i love you' back.. but im not sure.

does anybody else have this problem (if you want to call it that)?
or am i the only one? O____o
just curious..

Sometimes it can be hard to say 'I love you' if you know you don't really mean it. I know that I couldn't say it at first and I found it awkward when others said it to me. Make sure that you're saying to someone you really mean it about, and you should have no problems.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

Yeah, I get really awkward when it comes to telling someone I love them. I don't use those words unless I mean them in any case but I find it really hard to tell someone I genuinely care about that I love them. And if and when I do, I always turn it into some kind of joke.

I don't know why that is.

Re: saying 'i love you' - April 24th 2010, 06:37 AM

I am the same way. I just have a hard time letting people know I care about them because then if they do anything to hurt me I can pretend it didn't hurt because 'I didn't care all that much anyways'.

I feel that telling people you 'love them' and showing people you 'love them' through hugging and kissing makes me vulnerable. I am getting better at it now and I tell people, occasionally, that I love them and I hug people more.

Anyway, if that is the reason you find it weird the best advice I can give you is to realize no one has the ability to make you feel vulnerable but yourself. If it is some other reason just go out of your comfort zone and tell people you love them. Start out with people you feel comfortable with parents, siblings, other family members or friends and go from there. It really does help. Let one person in and see how that goes and then you might notice a big change in the way you feel about the words 'I love you."

Hope this helped.

Jenna

There could never be amore beautiful you
Don't buy the lies, disguisesandhoops they make you jump through
You were made tofill a purposethat only you could do
So there could never be amore beautiful you
-Johnny Diaz

Everyday
is so wonderful
And suddenly it's hard to breathe
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I feel so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Tryin' hard to fill the emptiness, the piece is gone
Left the puzzle undone, ain't that the way it is?

'Cause you are beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring you down, oh no
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring you down, oh no
So don't you bring me down today

I hardly ever say "I love you" either, because I only say it when I 100% mean it. You see people doing it on texts on facebook even here.. "love you".. and it's just, no. you might care very much for that person but you don't LOVE them.. the more you say it the less special it is. People who know me know that if I say "I love you" I genuinely mean it because I don't say it left, right and centre. It makes it mean more.

On a similar note I'm not always giving compliments. I don't say every day "I love your shirt/shoes/bag/hair" or "you look super stunning" but when I DO give compliments it makes them extra special. And I do try to give them reguarly-ish, just not every day/hour/second like some people seem to!
I also hate this "I'm-going-to-tell-you-you-look-nice-so-you-tell-me-how-nice-I-look-too" thing.

It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.

I say I love you whenever I leave for school in the morning to my mom. I say I love you when I say goodbye to my boyfriend or the time fits. I say I love you to my best friends. We all say it to let them know that there is someone who cares.

People say it to me all the time but I rarley say it I just find it a bit awkard. When I say I love somebody its because I truley do not just because they said it first.

No, I have a problem with the way those three words are misused and people forget the real meaning behind it.
I love cake, I love this shirt, I love that brand of shoes, I absolutely love this lipstick, I love your coat, etc...yadda yadda...it's misused so much people forget the real meaning behind it.
Love to me it saying it and actually meaning it from the very depths of your heart and soul, knowing you love that person and it's uncondoitional...saying it because you really mean it. Love is a special, powerful thing, the meaning behind it shouldn't be misused.

Same, i don't like the fact that it's used as an everyday word.
I don't find it exactly weird, but when someone tells me they love it, it's a bit like woah(if it's a guy) I mean i tell my best friend i love her(as a friend) but that's because i truly do, she means alot to me and is there for me for almost everything.
I've told my boyfriend i love him, and it wasn't hard to say, but it took up alot of courage, he says it to me alot and i've told him off haha and what he said was "i try to use if for when i really mean it but i really mean it everytime i say it to you" which i thought was quite sweet, but he does say it alot T___T and i suppose telling someone you need them is almost as powerful and i've never said that to anyone haha
I don't say it often to my parents(i love you), but i say it to my sister
