I'm scared of My Own Potential - June 7th 2011, 01:20 AM

Just as the title says. I'm terrified of what I could become. I take after my father, which gave me extreme depression and alot of anger issues. I also got a perfectionist idealism from my mother. Also, my mid works differently than others. It automatically relates anything and everything to anyone and everyone. - For instance, when I hear someone say 'love', I remember everything that it means to me and every single experience I have had with that word. I also intake information at a quicker rate than others. AKA, I'm gifted, but my depression messes with my head and doesn't really let me do alot with it. I know it all sounds weird, but I swear it is honestly true.

I train in martial arts, parkour, balance, and lift weights and do daily jogs. I'm scared that with everything I can do and everything I know, I'm going to seriously hurt someone, or become a psychopath or murderer or something.

Also, this might be slightly off topic, but I always feel that I can't date anyone or really get close to or trust anyone, because I don't want to end up physically or emotionally scarring them.

Please give me some advise, I'm going nuts about this and I've been having mental breakdowns.

Have you told anyone that you feel like this??

I think that you should talk to your parents and tell them that you're afraid of what you could do to a person. That being said, if you don't want to harm a person, you probably won't. If it gets to the point where you honest to God are going to harm a person, then walk away and get help.

Are you on any medication for your depression?

You could also ask your parents to talk to someone..a therapist or something? It might help you get out the way you feel.

It sounds reasonable, but my parents think I'm just faking the entire thing.

In life, everyone has power. Not to sound corny, but with living comes responsibility.. I suffer from depression, and I learn much quicker than others also.. I kinda know what you feel that you can't trust anyone (but I can't really relate to the harming someone thing). Have someone, anyone, if it even be an internet friend who cant reveal your secrets because they know noone that you know to be your "accountability" partner.. If youre feeling angry, talk about it. I used to be an angry person, and now, im not easily bothered (or atleast I don't dwell on it) because I talk. Try it, it might help!(:

Not a bad strategy. I'll give it a go.
