This is Irritating - June 8th 2011, 04:06 AM

I get on here and look at these forums, and I see that some people just keep posting the same thing over and over again and a lot of us have replied and helped the best we could.... This is pushing people back and down the list... I think I we have given all we could give, and I guess 50 post isn't good enough advise and they want more....

I don't understand what the purpose of this post is. Are you suggesting that people should stop posting after a certain point because of what you think is sufficient advice? It depends on the subject matter quite honestly. As you may have noticed, a moderator will close a thread if he or she feels as if it has been answered completely. This does not happen the same way on a thread that was posted in, let's say, the Depression and Suicide forum. Some people need the help and support they receive.

Why don't you try answering threads with the least replies?

I reply to these threads 4 and 5 times cause someone will close them and then they start the same thread over and over on the same issue and each time its closed they just start the same one again

Maybe I am misunderstanding you. But I'm trying to figure out what you are having problems with?

Are you saying that people are trying to raise their post count by posting the same thing over and over again?

Are you saying that some people post the same problem over and over again? If you feel that someone has made a thread about a problem that has already been solved, then I'd suggest reporting it and someone will deal with it or just ignore it.

There's honestly nothing you can do about it. Some people needalot of help and advice,a nd maybe 50 posts isn't enough. If you feel bad for the people being pushed down, then scan through the pages for those people and help them.

In my opinion, after the problem has been answered the discussion should be closed, and if they want to take the conversation further they can do so in pm or whatever. I know it's not my place to say as I'm not a mod or anything... Just something that's been bothering me for a few days now actually.

Deciding when to close a thread is actually really tricky. When people are like "Thanks so much! I'll try that." You want to close the thread, but thinking about it, there is still advice to be given. Threads should be closed when the OP is asking a basic question, and everyone who responds says the same thing. Another time when a thread should be closed is when a thread strays way far off topic or a fight starts and it's basically impossible to get the thread back on track. Oh, and of course we close threads at the request of the OP. But I've never really closed threads because I think the problem has been resolved. Because if they do have more questions, they can refer to the thread again instead of starting another one.

@OP. As Meli said, some people need a lot of help. If they keep posting threads in the same forum, then they will get merged together as one thread to reduce the problem you're suggesting. Also, there is nothing in the rules that really pertains to this.. And actually, I've not seen anything that relates to what you're talking about. But I could totally see where it would be frustrating. It does suck to get your thread pushed back.

If you are currently witnessing this in say the Friends and Family forum, then you're more than welcome to PM me. If you see it in another forum, you can PM that mod too!

Re: This is Irritating - June 8th 2011, 04:17 PM

I have a thread on the depression forum with like forty five posts shared by only five or six users. It's an ongoing story of what's happening with me right now. I feel it's better making thirty posts (Which were my contributions) than thirty threads.

- Justin

Edit: But I don't mean this offensively, but you aren't the person to judge when a thread should be closed. Just because you see it as an annoyance whomever posted the thread obviously doesn't.
