Worried About A.....Haircut.... - December 1st 2011, 08:11 PM

Yer basically, im a guy and i really struggle to find a hairdressers that dont scare me, I used to go to barbers but i always had so much cut off when i did and didnt like it at all, i went to one hairdressers (my friends mum) and they did it amazing it was the first real hairdressers ive been to, But now me and my friend have had a huge rant and rave at each other and dont think i would be to welcome as she owns the place.

All the hairdressers ive check have that "women" direction and feel strange going and having it done in there, aswell as a driving concern that always puts me off which is having to much cut off.....when i say trim i mean trim, when i say an inch i mean an inch.

How do i solve this

First of all, realize it's only hair and it will grow back. Also realize that in modern society we base a lot of opinions on how we look and how other percieve us. This does not make you "gay" or a "wimp" or whatever bullshit lines they fed you in highschool.

You need to start profiling hairstylists, my personal favourite is the "grandmother" usually an older woman who may or may not have grandchildren. She's usually pretty out of style, but will copy any picture you hand her to a T, and knows how to follow instruction.
She is past the point where she feels the need to experiment at other's expenses and at this point is just trying to raise money for someone's graduation/plane tickets/birthday or some other event.

Older stylists have more experience and are generall more willing to listen to what you want.

Also, man up and go to a salon. Yes they are girly, but do it. 97% of the time barbers cannot cut longer hair for shit, because normally they just need buzzers and side-burn clippers, and siccors are some kind of foreign tool to them.

What I do when I want to get specific with how much I want cut is use the 'old fashioned' thumb and index finger way. Simply, specify EXACTLY how much you want cut off and if you're strict enough about it, they'll listen to you.

Some barbers cut off a bit more when you say "an inch" because they think you're estimating, which often makes them think you want your hair slightly shorter (i.e. few more inches).

Just make sure you let them know EXACTLY the amount you want cut off, and like Justin said, aim for the older ones as they've learned that costumers sometimes just want 'an inch' cut off!

Good luck!
