Are you sensitive?

I was thinking about this the other day. My friends and I are really harsh to one another--not outright rude, but we call each other rude names and such all the time and make fun of the other person's flaws. People who don't know us personally think we hate each other when they overhear our conversations I guess you could say I'm not sensitive, really. I dont' mind people making light of my flaws, even if it's someone I don't know that well. That isn't to say I take things lying down, though. I make sure to get my jabs in there So my question for you guys is, do you consider yourself easily hurt by words?

If its a female - yes, I am very sensitive!

If its a male (best friend, friend, stranger) - no I am not very sensitive.

Why with just females? I have always lacked a female role model so things females say last a lifetime within my mind which if its bad - it will hurt me, but if its a good thing it will make me feel good

My friend and I constantly make fun of each other, but if anyone else did that to me then I would be pretty upset. I don't have very thick skin when it comes to people I am not friends with or hold in high esteem.

If it's someone I barely know or don't know at all: YES, to the point where I get really depressed/upset at the fact that my flaws are noticeable to so many others.

For me, it depends on who the other person is. If it's someone that I'm really close to, I'm generally fine with it. But if it's someone like my parents, and I know they mean it, their words do hurt me.

Yes, I do get hurt easily when its my mom saying things. I am horribly sensitive when it comes to her. She'll say shut up and that enough to make me cry my eyes out. Otherwise with friends I am pretty much like the OP described.

My friends and I do interact in much the same way as the OP described, although if one of us gets upset, we often don't stop right away simply because it's expected whoever is upset will laugh it off. If my parents or family insult me, it does nothing, especially given that my father and I have very thick skin. It takes a lot of work on his part to get under my skin and we both enjoy confrontations.

When someone random insults me, most of the time I don't give a crap as I don't know them so there is no reason to become upset because they do not have information to know what buttons to press. On the other hand, if they're determined to do more than simply give a lame insult and are willing to stand their ground, then I view it as a game that I'm very willing to play with. I'll poke and prod at them without backing down, even if I humiliate them to the point where they'll physically retaliate because at that point it becomes another game and I'll only back off once enough people pull me off or I see the person has no fight left in them, meaning they're no longer interesting to me.

If it was between my friends and I, then it wouldn't bother me, I know that they're only messing around.
But as soon as someone I don't know starts saying stuff, then yes, I'd be a bit hurt.

I'm sort of sensitive. I mean, if it's my friends, they can say pretty much anything and I'll not care.
But if it's someone I don't really know, then I get angry and hurt haha

Yes, I am rather sensitive. I prefer not to poke fun at other people's expense and I'd prefer that my friends not do that to me. It just doesn't sit well with me.

It depends if I like them or not. If I consider them my friend/look up to them, then I can take things to heart, even if it's not meant that way. If I don't care for them, I just dish it right back and don't think about it later because their opinion doesn't matter to me.

Yeah ~ I've always grown up with male friends and can take a bit of a slagging about things, but oddly I can still be way too sensitive about others. I think this is what led to me putting up for so long with a previous relationship that was actually emotionally abusive ~ I know I'm sensitive, so anything my ex said that really hurt me I ignored and just told myself to man up because it was my fault for being sensitive about.

I'm really sensitive, always have been. As I got older it got better, but certain people or people's attitudes toward certain topics still get to me. As far as name calling, it doesn't bother me anymore.

I'm the same way with my Dad. All he's got to do is hint that he's disappointed in me and I'm in tears. If friends tease me, I'm ok. Some off brand fool says something, I'm ready to fight.

If it's with my friends I'm fine but if it's with anyone else I can be sensitive. Usually I can take a joke but some offhand comments about cutting or EDs have hurt me. I think it depends on my mood, too. When I'm depressed almost everything makes it worse. Put simply, the context is key.

Yeah I tend to be sensitive, I act in the same way with my close friends as the OP said but sometimes my friends take it too far. Even if you tell them too far bro they keep going.
Usually I brush it off and supress my negative emotions for the gym.

If it's family I'm incredibly senstive because it's not a normal thing for that behavior to be acceptable in my family when someone says something rude to you in my family it's because it's true.

With a stranger...yeah I'm sensitive usually I ignore it or save it for the gym.

I'm very sensitive. This is probably due to the fact pretty much all of my school life has included comments about my flaws and the way I look or am, so now I really take things to heart. I mean, if it's something like my best friend calling me a whore (Which she does ) I'm okay with it, but if someone were to say something about the way I look, I'd get really upset over it and it would play on my mind for a very long time. I'm probably one of the most sensitive people I could name.

I'm really sensitive with people who know me. I was bullied, and called names all throughout high school so that hasnt really helped. Even its a friend who teases me and I know they are only messing, I might still take it to heart.

If its a stranger, there was a time when it would have upset me but now I dont care. I just give them a dirty look and walk on...

Depends what they're joking about. I don't like any jokes about my appearance but other than that it's fair game as long as they can take what they dish out. I take the piss all the time out my friends but I never do anything personal. It's always playful, like if my friend drops a plate: "You are such a sack." but it's never anything like "Holy shit your head is oversized" or anything like that, that's over the top in almost any situation. I never comment on people's appearance because it's not my place to.

I would love to say that I don't take things personally, but really.. I do.
And it sucks.

It depends on what they are saying and who it is. If it's somebody who I don't get along with or I don't particularly like and they're being damn right rude then I will be sensitive to it. If it's one of my close friends, I don't take it too sensitively. It depends on what they say and if it's intentionally meant to be rude or not.

I can be really sensitive, sometimes too much for my own good. I let my emotions get in the way of things like relationships a lot of the time because of my insecurities, but I guess that's down a different road...but yeah, I wish I wasn't so sensitive to things sometimes.

I can be at times, but I know when my friends are joking, and I let them know if they ever go too far (which is rare). But I'm the same as you, my friends and I constantly make fun of each other and call each other names. All in good fun of course. But if it were someone I wasn't as close with, or if I wasn't sure if they were teasing, I would probably feel really hurt.

I'm very sensitive. The tiniest little thing can set me off, even when it's a joke from my friends. So yeah... It's something I know I need to work on but I find it really difficult.
