surgery, my experience -
May 14th 2010, 09:09 PM
FYI: I have a genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis it causes noncancerous tumors to grow on my nerves and sometimes under my skin and NO you wont catch it,
In November of 2005 I had major surgery to remove a tumor in the back of my throat in a large tumor in my sinuses, as I was waking up from anesthesia in recovery I remember feeling this excruciating sharp pain in the back of my throat and in my sinuses, the pain was terrible I knew that this pain was because of the surgery but it was also because of the endotracheal tube that they had put down my throat(an endotracheal tube is a special breathing tube that’s used in surgery and in other various situations) I, there was a voice in my head screaming, I wanted to scream out loud so bad, but I knew that if I did that it would not only hurt like hell but most likely rip out any stitches that I had. So I did the next best thing, I cried, I literally bawled my eyes out because I was in so much pain, after the nurse came to my bedside and I begged to see my parents I passed out from the pain, the next thing I knew I was in the ICU with my parents, I was so glad to have my mom with me, even though I was 14 I still wanted my mommy to stay the night with me, which thankfully she did, I had packing gauze in the back of my throat and a string that was hanging out of my nose, the nurse made a special pack around under my nose since I was bleeding quiet a bit, thankfully the bleeding wasn’t serious but it was definitely there the nurse was so kind, I don’t remember much of my stay in the ICU because I pretty much slept the entire time I was in the hospital recovering, I did receive pain medication, it would be inhumane to let someone suffer especially a child, anyway I just wanted to share a little bit of my experience with surgeries and this disorder. |

Hey there, I am glad that you could share your experience with us. I have been through 3 surgeries in one year, so I know all about it. I was 17/18 when I had all my surgeries and my mom stayed with me every night (after each surgery, I was in the hospital for 5 days).
Anyways, I am glad to see everything is better now. Thanks for sharing your story with us.
