Help to see it as `no big deal` - October 15th 2011, 05:55 AM

As of yesterday I have been in two accidents both of which I am at fault. I want to hang up my keys but no one will allow me, mainly cause I want have have a way to get to college or work.

Both of the accidents I had become VERY upset and everyone around was saying it's not a big deal, but what do they know, it wasn't them. It was to a big deal.

Right now I feel frightened to travel down the two streets that the accidents happened on, Which I see as pretty pitiful considering my age, and their really isn't nothing wrong with me. Also I will never drive with a GPS system again either.

I am asking for advice on how to stay calm when I am faced with those situations and not feel like I should hang my keys up for good and how to get over the fear of the two streets that the accidents occurred on.

P.S. I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, this seemed to be the only section it would fit.

Thank You and Hugs all who give any advice to help.

Some say the world will end in fire Some say in ice
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire
But if it had to perish twice
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great And would suffice.

The exact same thing has happened to me. The first car accident I was in I rear-ended the lady and I was freaked out to drive for a long time after that. And the second one was in Portland, OR and I did not drive in Portland for like a year after it happened.
I don't know though, I eventually just sort of had to let myself relax about it. It's now been 2 years since the first accident and 1 1/2 since the 2nd and I still feel guilty sometimes. This probably isn't very good advice, but I sort of just have to do my very best to not think about it, which is hard at first, but it gets easier as time passes.

although my problem came with riding a bike I can still understand (i hope)

You just have to believe that it won't happen again, since you realised it was your fault you can only drive more to improve your awareness

Don't be held down by mistakes, learn from them instead

good luck

Unless I actually injured someone I wouldn't feel as guilty you apparently do. I donno... perhaps it's just a matter of coming to terms with the fact that accidents happen, you don't necessarily have to be behind the wheel. I guess it's the relatively new experience and slight nervousness that makes it worse though.

If you've got some spare time, read this:

But don't if you're easily triggered. If you're not easily triggered then go ahead.
