Mum punched son over hickey, court hears - May 5th 2009, 08:35 PM

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/ar...ectid=10570332
Quote:
A Hamilton woman attacked her teenage son while he was at work after he missed his curfew and she saw a lovebite on his neck. Huia Dawn Te Pou, 32, admitted the November assault when she appeared in Hamilton District Court on Friday and was fined $200 and sentenced to six months supervision, the Waikato Times reported. Te Pou became violent after spotting the lovebite on the 15-year-old's neck, her lawyer Len Caley said. She pushed him out the back of the Grandview Mall, where he worked in a supermarket, and punched him in the face and chest. Te Pou then dragged the boy back through the store and sat on him out the front of the mall to stop him escaping. Witnesses called police who found Te Pou holding her son against a fence. He had blood on his head and looked dizzy, the court was told. The boy has since moved in with his grandparents in Rotorua.

Good gracious, looks like somebody wins the overprotective-mother-of-the-year award. That's horrible!

Moral of the story: Turtle-Neck's can be good?

Wow. I think that's insanely ridiculous. Beyond a fine and supervision, it sounds like she needs a psych consult. Seriously.

Gives a whole new meaning to, "did someone punch you in the neck or is that a hickey?"

That's awful! I mean, most teenagers get hickeys on occasion. That's an extreme of overprotective parent. I feel bad for the boy

Wait... so the 15-year old kid just stands there and takes the punches, doesn't fight back and unless the mother is some huge wrestler or the kid is tiny, how'd she manage to drag him through the store and to the back of it, then stop him from escaping and shove him against a fence? If you're being hit, regardless if it's your own mother, then you hit back. Or, if the kid did hit back then the mother may be fit for some kick-boxing or wrestling women's competition, LOL.

But, the mother seems kind and caring as she is protective (bit extreme though). But at least she cares about her son, may not have been the right place nor time to express her feelings but nonetheless, she cares for the kid.

That all depends on how you've been brought up. Alot of people are taught never to lay a finger on their mothers. I know plenty of people who wouldnt punch their mother even if she was punching them.
It could have been that he was so shocked that he just didnt know how to react, so stood there and tried to wait it out.

Anyway, I don't think she should of reproduced in the first place if this is what she's going to do to her child. It's revolting. This is the opposite of being protective. It's distructive.

I find it hard to believe he was in shock so long he got dragged through a store then thrown up against a fence. Perhaps you're right about how he may have been raised. Myself, I have no problem hitting my mother back if she hits me.

Wow, makes me rethink calling my parents overprotective.
Imagine what she'll do when he impregnates someone!

She'd probably end up being charged with murder...

I can understand that she might be like shocked or something, but beating him up is just a bit ridiculous. Why didn't he try to fend her off, or something, instead of letting her beat the crap out of him?

i can see that she might be mad, but she went a bit far. going to his work and having a go at him/embarassing him fair enough i 'spose, considering how overprotective she must be.. but as soon as you get violent it's gone too far.

Am I the only one who jumps to the conlusion that maybe there was more going on between them than a normal mother-son relationship to envoke such wrath for the markings of another woman on him?

Maybe I'm just messed up...

That's not necessarily true. Even if my mum hit me, I'd never hit her back because my punishment would be worse. I think you'll find a lot of people won't hit their mum, even to protect ones self. And people can get quite strong when they're angry, because they get a rush of adrenaline. I'm not condoning what this woman did though. She should've waiting until she got calmed down and gone home, so she could talk to him rationally about it.

Who do you carry that torch for, my young man?
Do you believe in anything?
Or do you carry it around just to burn things down?

Meet me tonight on the turnpike my darling,
where we believe in everything.

so let's strap ourselves up to this engine now
with our God who we found laying under the back seat.

Yikes, I thought my mother was bad for freaking out about my hickeys, but a mother beating their son over it... that's absurd! Why would she do that? I agree with Rican-Roll, my immediate thought is that the mother obviously has something going on with her towards the boy whether it be rage just looking for a reason to get out, or something more disgusting...
