Student accused of jumping rope with.. - May 21st 2009, 01:14 AM

get this: SNAKE!!

Pittsburgh police say a high school student is facing charges for using a biology class snake as a jump rope.
A 17-year-old took a living, breathing snake out of his biology class Monday and tried to play some double dutch with it Police say the incident happened at Taylor Allderdice High School. Police aren't identifying the 17-year-old suspect because he's being charged in juvenile court. . The boy will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
The animal survived the ordeal and was being examined by a veterinarian.
Pittsburgh Public School officials on Tuesday were not immediately able to say what kind of snake it was.

oh dear. I don;t even want to know what the heck
that kid was thinking when he did that.

There is only one person who could ever
make you happy, and that person is you.

People need to be taught more respect for animals. They are living things, not toys to be used for someone's sick amusement.

Wow, what an idiot. Who would look at a snake and think "Gee, I bet this would make a wonderful jump rope...."

I hope the snake's alright.

Oh my. If I would have done this, I would have ended up stepping on the snake like I always stepped on the rope as a child.

The poor snake though. I bet it was scared silly.

For next time, give a source. I googled it and I got a source myself (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090520/...p_rope_snake_3). I'm waiting for more information, as it seems odd to me that a kid randomly decides on Monday to take a snake and skip with it. It may indeed have unfolded as that, however, why not buy a snake and do that over and over again, that way, although still illegal, less chances of being caught. So, this makes no sense to me. The kid was smart enough to know the bio lab has a snake, was able to get it, so he could've easily got one from a store or stolen the snake.

So, not enough information.

The poor snake. I hope it's alright. And this sounds like a really dumb idea.

Once I had a rubber toy snake and I jumped rope with it... then its head fell off and I was sad.

This boy has some serious lack of intelligence.

Yeah, it takes a lot of intelligence to be in a classroom and notice that there's a tank with a snake in it.

Is it really that hard to believe that a teenager did something spontaneously without thinking it through? This strikes me as more of a spur-of-the-moment thing, he probably just saw it and thought "Hey, I've got an idea!" Unfortunately, some people are idiots.

It may have indeed been a spur-of-the-moment event, although I'm curious, as always to try and figure out how and why his mind suddenly decided to stop doing whatever activity he was doing and go, get a snake and then skip with it.

What also struck me as odd was that I can't remember the last time I saw a teenage boy skipping with anything, much less a snake.

Quote:
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Public Schools says a high school student swung around a snake from a biology class but didn't use it as a jump rope as police had said.

Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said Wednesday that "it's not a big enough snake to jump rope with."

She also says the albino corn snake is OK and didn't need to be treated by a veterinarian after Monday's incident.

Police say the 17-year-old Taylor Allderdice High School student will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
I thought you weren't allowed to name minors facing criminal charges?

Edit: So apparently this kid wasn't jumping rope with a snake, but I found this video on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_HUwgo_W9A

is that for real? It's a bit blurry...are they seriously using an anaconda to skip?

My mistake, when I was reading I thought Taylor was his name.
