Church of Scotland Vote to back Gay Minister - May 25th 2009, 01:57 AM

Now, I apologise if this is in the wrong forum, it fitted into two, and I chose this

The details are found here.
Basically, what I would like to know if you think it's wrong for the church to oppose a gay minister. From a non-religious point of view, of course not, but from a religious one, isn't homosexuality wrong in the eyes of god?

Myself, I find it great that the church is opening itself to homosexual people, and they're becoming narrow minded, however, for a lot of the Christian faith, this could be seen as a sin.

What are your views?

Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

I think this is great, honestly. The Church being open to a gay minister is a step forward, in my opinion.

Really, homosexuality could or could not be named as a sin. It depends how you interpret things, and if you take the bible word for word.

I think it's really cool they are opening themselves to homosexual. I think it's sad that it's such a big deal.

Hooray for openness and acceptance.

I think that the Christian way of doing things (i.e. acceptance) would make this out to be very good.

As long as he follows the rules of being a minister, he should remain one.

From a non-religious view point its great. But I am a strong Christian and I believe that homosexualoty is wrong and I would not like a gay minister. The bible says that a man shall not lie with another man, and I agree with that. Im not saying that I hate homosexual people, I have many friends who are and I love them.

Rock on! I think that this is a huge step up for the church. People are people, and if this guy has a calling to enter into the priesthood, no-one should have the right to deny him.

From a more religious stand-point, it doesn't really make sense, though... I mean, there has been no official notice that homosexuality isn't a sin in the eyes of the church, and until they do announce that the church as a whole okay with homosexuality, having a gay priest/minister is sort of hypocritical.

I'm sure it's going to confuse a lot of people. I mean, a minister? Really?

Homosexuality is wrong, but you have no way to control

And how can you think it's wrong, but have friends who are gay...

I think this is wonderful. And, I'm not particularly religious, but don't Christians believe in loving their neighbors and stuff? ;p

Well if he's a minister, he's not having sex, right? And it's only the act that is the sin, from what I understand.

I think that so long as the minister isn't actively engaging in homosexual behavior then there should be no problem with it.

I swear never to be silent whenever wherever human beings are enduring suffering and humiliation. We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must — at that moment — become the center of the universe.

I really dislike when religions don't stick to what they claim to believe. If your religion opposes something, be consistent in your beliefs, don't make concessions to pacify.

Not around so much now that school's started

"Live a good life.
If there are gods and they are just,
then they will not care how devout you have been,
but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by.
If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them.
If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life
that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

I have no problem with it. He didn't lie about it, he was open and honest. It's nice to see people being open minded and accepting
I know word for word the bible says it is wrong, but I really don't think God judges people for who they fall in love with.

The church of scotland is different to many churches, he was married with a child before, so the ministers in our churches are allowed to have sex. I think it is priests who are not allowed to
