Do YOU think the US went to the moon? - July 20th 2009, 07:17 PM

Saw the topic come up here, and in honor of the 40th anniversary, I figured I'd start a poll. So, do you believe that the US went to the moon 40 years ago, or do you think it was faked?

I personally believe we did go.

Considering they just took pictures of the moon that show the lander on the surface... yeah.

I'm sure there's some explanation for it that we have no knowledge of. There has to be SOME gaseous matter or dust there, there is some heat.

I think they did land, but I have a better question.

Why does it matter?

I believe they did land, the only part I question is why hasn't anyone been back? Technology has evolved so much you would expect it to be easier now.

Did anyone see the episode of Mythbusters where they proved all the moon landing conspiracies where wrong?

It was very good, the couldn't go in to space but they tested everything in NASA and used vacuums.

The did an interesting test with the flag and it showed that is wasn't blowing in the wind it was moving because of the force from when it was planted into the moon and then it slowed down and stopped.
This is the part about the flag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhab86KoVjU

The full episode isn't on youtube but their are clips about each test they did.

Thats due to a natural (and common) phenomenon in space called Solar wind, which is created when solar flares shoot off the sun (happening every second), this same wind causes comets to have tails =).

And yes, we did land on the moon.

I think so, but I am not surprised some people doubt it. Similar to how people doubt Cobain's suicide, there are very few REAL witnesses and there is some loose plausibility that something else could have happened. I believe it, but just sayin'

i don't believe it.. but then again i don't entirely disbelieve it either.

but then again i tend to doubt anything and everything. i watched this documentary about it and it pretty much convinced me that there is definitely reason to doubt it.

Yes the USA landed on the moon.
I just have one question...
Is the whole moon of the USA or only part??

well legally(as far as most major nations governments are concerned) nobody owns any part of the moon, just like those novelty people who sell stars. I would think that to own a part of the moon you have to reside on that part for a while, like squatters did in early america.

"Both the United States and the Soviet Union wanted to reach the moon first but, in fact, each was more worried about what would happen if they arrived second. Fears that the competition might trigger World War III led to the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, which was eventually ratified by 62 countries. According to article II of the treaty, "Outer Space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sover*eignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means.""

Oh ok...
So if for example the USA goes and claims a part of the moon and China another and Russia another is that "allowed"?
I also hear that before Niel Armstrong wanted to say something like "I claim this moon for texas" would that, have made Texas legally owner of the moon under the international law of that time?

There are a couple of good documentaries out there that make me doubt it, for better reasons than shadows and flags.

under the treaty no country can claim any piece of the moon, no matter who does the claiming.

Of course the US went to the moon. In my opinion, any attempts to discredit the moon landing--and other monumental events in human history, for that matter--are from the mouths of people who lack faith in the power of the human race. The myths are circulated by people for whom it is impossible that amazing things can happen. I'm an idealist and, whether it kills me or not, I refuse to believe in a government that would be so intentionally and needlessly deceptive.

I realize this may be a little strong, but it's what I personally choose to believe.

There were several missions to the moon during the Apollo era. The reason that sense then we have not gone back is because of political BS and because NASA is pathetic with public relations- They have never been able to get people consistently excited about human space flight, which is really a shame.
