Zoo gives ginger children free entry to orangutan weekend - November 12th 2010, 07:21 PM

Links here and here.

Dublin Zoo will offer all red-haired children under 16 and anyone dressed as an orangutan free entry to the zoo this weekend to highlight the plight of the great ape.
Just... lol.

I don't understand why everyone thinks events like these somehow support the bullying of children with red hair. If anything, the red-haired children are receiving special treatment for being unique. Here, when Julia Gillard became Prime Minister, a local company was giving out free juices or slushies or something to all people with red hair (which was a bit stupid since her hair isn't naturally red anyway). But I don't really see what the big deal is?

As far as I've seen, kids with red-hair are not bullied all that much more than other children. My sister has red hair and she has never been teased for it. I don't even think my mother was maliciously teased for having red hair, even though she was the only kid in the entire school with red hair. I have one friend who was teased for having ginger hair, but he was also skinny, wore glasses, had heaps of freckles and is a male dancer, which I think had more to do with the teasing than just his red hair. And plenty of people dye their hair red these days.

Children are always going to tease other children and they'll find something that they can use against them. But I doubt this event will making the teasing worse, and really it's not the zoo's job to discourage bullying. That's something that schools, teachers, and parents should be doing.

Red heads are not the only ones going in free, if you go dressed like a orangutan you get in free too. The ones receiving special treatment are the children under 16 they should do it for everyone.

I love how someone dressed as an orangutan is equal to a redhead.

Lol awesome, red-heads are equal to orangutans.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.

I saw this, my friend is thinking of briging her little sister (:
Although....it does slightly imply that red-haird children are orangutans.
