You just can't keep people happy. They protest when there's a financial crisis. They protest when you try and do something about it.

Some people just need to grow up. Vandalising the banks is hardly going to give them more money...
Evidently, they're meeting to try and do something about this, so what're they 'protesting' for?

I don't mind people protesting but I find it absolutely ridiculous when they cause more damage and turmoil in the process. If you must protest, do it peacefully or at least without inflicting damage. You can easily get your point across and be heard without vandalizing buildings and etc.

Governments don't listen to peaceful protests.

At least they're getting their point across, better than people who just complain about things and don't bother doing anything about it. people won't listen to a "peaceful" protest.
However, seems a bit of a stupid thing to do to me, smashing up banks and all, but to each their own.

They're doing exactly what they wanted to do: Getting attention. If you smash in windows and start a riot, then you'll surely get noticed.

I've read about happenings with this "G-20 thing" a lot lately. What exactly is it? I'm in the states, so I'm not up to date on this.

You should be as the richest nation

The G20 is a meeting of the world's top 20 wealthiest nations. As such it gets media coverage and will attract protesters. When the G8 was held in 2005 the day before it started the tube was bombed

To be fair, peaceful protests barely do anything usually, because they are easy to ignore. Like the protests going on outside the G20 meeting today are basically completely uncovered by the news, etc, and they are far enough away from the building (because of the police) for none of the people involved in the meeting to even notice.

Not to mention, the protests yesterday had 1000s of people, I assume the majority of the protestors were peaceful. Also no injuries (accept the guy who died) were reported I think.

I can sympathise with this protest. I know a lot of anarchists and the sort of people who were going to this.

They were attacking the banks, because they blame the backers for the current problem.

Good for them in my opinion. They're standing up for what they want.

What pisses me off, is the people who were doing these things just because other people were. And that other people got hurt - that's not right.

But I sure can tell you there are multiple things that if they happened to me, I'd be smashing windows. -Shrugs- Violence shouldn't be, but I don't think the human race will ever get past needing to use violence to get noticed.
If someone wouldn't have gotten hurt, I wouldn't even have known about this.

I've been reading up on a lot of this over the past two days.

I'm all for non-violent protest, and by that I mean non-violence to people. If it takes property destruction, then I see that as fair. I would think the majority the protesters made no physical violence to anyone (or did not have the intention), until the police came in. I believe in their rights, and that this was a good stage to protest. It's unfortunately that people did get hurt because of this, but hopefully this will lead to some social justice.

Unlikely, given that apart from the greens most of them weren't after any social justice.

What exactly was trashing the banks meant to do?

"Hey guys lets go smash up a bank to protest against the government funelling funds into the banks so they will have to funnel MORE money into the bank to repair the damage we've done. No flaws here."

Basically the whole thing was idiotic. And the "Abolish Money" chants and plaquards are stupid, civilisation has always had a form of currency and it always will, they're morons.

With the exception of a few broken windows, that's what the protests in London were as well.
