This article doesn't give much information, so there's something I'm trying to understand right now. I'm not defending this guy in any way, but how is it that now all of the sudden there's an investigation of forced oral copulation with a minor...over ten years ago. Where is the evidence? Are there pictures, videos, anything? Did the student from so long ago come forward about the incident? Even if she did, it's been over ten years, and without the evidence, this guy is probably going to walk.

Any thoughts?

If they can't prove it, he's going to walk. I honestly don't get what the big deal is about. She's 18, she's an adult, she can sleep with or date whoever the hell she wants to. Sure the guy's a bastard for leaving his wife and kids, but he hasn't done anything illegal, so far that we know about.

Sythan- Its a big deal to alot of people because they starting texting and meeting before she was 18, which is illegal, especially because he was in a place of authority as her teacher, which he took advantage off. Watch the Dr.Phil episode about it, and realize why everyone finds it so disturbing. They were hanging out, texting and possibly doing physical things before she even turned 18, which is majorly illegal considering he is 41 years old and a teacher. thats why people find it so disturbing and wrong.

Where's the proof? All so far has been hearsay, nothing more. I've seen the Dr. Phil episode, the girls mother is a wacko. Texting your teaching isn't illegal, neither is meeting them somewhere. If he used his position of authority to take advantage of her and abuse her when she was below 18, then it's illegal, but nothing's been proven yet.

The only reason there's so much judgement towards the man is because he's so old and she's so young. It's stupid and ludicrous the things people can come up with.

Doesn't surprise me. Lots of teachers do this. Most schools though would like to keep it low key so some schools actually turn a blind eye etc. My school did exactly that - this teacher kept looking up skirts etc, and other teachers had mirror systems in place where if they looked at the floor they could see up your skirts, no matter how many times we complained about these teachers nothing got done. Thankfully one of these teachers has now been sacked. The teacher was in the wrong but the way I view it is, once a sexual offender always a sexual offender.

I, too, am not surprised. Many teachers have done this. While it's true that when an individual turns 18 years old, he/she is free to do whatever they please with whomever they please. However, this rule is altered a bit when it comes to people in positions of authority. I'm sure that, even if it was not proven that she was a minor when they first began speaking, the teacher could still be charged for sexual abuse because of the nature of his authority role.

To be honest, I see no reason for a 41 year old man to be involved with an 18 year old girl. You can present the "you can't help who you fall in love with" argument all you want but there is a very large difference between the two individuals in question. One is a mature, married 41 year old man and the other is a vulnerable 18 (or even young) year old girl. See an issue here? There is very little doubt in my mind that there is some kind of underlying reason she chose to be involved with him; a reason that exceeds "pure love and attraction". For this, the mature adult should be held accountable.

I'm not sure we're all talking about the same article here. Yeah, this guy ran off with the student, but this was an article about how they're trying to charge him not for being with her, but for a possible case of forced oral copulation with another student 10 years ago.

Either way it does not surprise me, many teachers do this sort of thing, it's just not always in the media. My school would be in the media everyweek if so due to various teachers acting inapproiatley.
