Progressive Creationists - October 1st 2013, 06:40 PM

Okay, let me clarify what I mean. A progressive creationist is someone who believes in the Genesis account of creation. However, because the Sun and Moon wasn't created initially, they believe that the "days" in Genesis 1 are millions of years. Within those millions of years, they believe that things had a chance to evolve.

The creationists who believe this are striving to reconcile science with their faith. However, I have a question. Since you believe in a literal account of creation, and I don't find a contradiction with believing those days are actually years, but my question is this: For evolution to occur it is essential that death take place. In Genesis 1, the fall had not yet happened, and thus no death. Why was there a necessity for evolution without death?

I've never heard of the term progressive creationist.

I think that if they are going to say that 1 day represents 1 million years, then I think they would say that death clearly was happening and the animals/humans did not realize it.

Also, a better question would be to ask them to explain the two creation stories.

Death didn't occur during the creation process. Man talked to a snake and ate a forbidden fruit in the 3rd chapter of Genesis. We see in this chapter that there were reptiles, fruit, and man. Evolution had already brought about humans. However, when man "sinnned" that is when death entered. Not prior. Romans 5:12. Saying the days represent millions of years is not a contradiction. Even the ECF recognized that there was no specified amount of time and stated that no one can really know how long those days were because the Sun and Moon had not yet been "created."
