Hey there, and welcome to TeenHelp!
To get any kind of birth control the doctor will ask you questions about why you want it and discuss the best option for you. There are other options besides the implant as well that you can discuss. I take the pill, but I did find some information about the implant for you. I don't think you'll have to take any tests, certainly not an x-ray, but that's something your doctor would know more about than me.

The implant is basically this little rod the size of a matchstick that they slip into your upper arm and releases a hormone that will prevent pregnancy. It should last for about 3 years before it has to be removed and it's not like other methods such as the patch and the pill where you have to remember to use it. Keep in mind that this doesn't protect against STI's so unless you and your partner just got tested and are STI free than use condoms as well.

Keep in mind that there are other methods out there too, especially if you don't like the idea of having the implant inserted into you. You may think that the pill or patch aren't an option for you because you don't think you'll remember to take it but you can always set an alarm. Either way, you and your doctor will find out what works best for you. I wish you the best of luck

I got it. I went to the doctor, had my normal checkup (pelvic exam and questioning my sexual history, history on other birth controls, etc), then made an appointment to have it put in. The day they put it in, they gave me a pregnancy test in case I was pregnant. Then, they numbed my arm using a shot, put it in, and bandages it up. It was sore for a few days. No x-rays needed.
