What is the morning after pill? - January 3rd 2018, 04:00 AM

I'm pretty awkward on this topic so please just forgive me for being so short with this but I just want to get to the point.
What is the "morning after pill"? and how does it work? Are there other steps I can take to make it "safe"? Safe-er anyway.
Thank you for the advice!

The morning after pill is emergency contraceptive. It can be used in instances where a condom breaks or a condom isn't used etc. It isn't something that should be used often and I believe that is because it uses a higher amount of hormones but I might not be 100% correct on that.

Morning after pills are good to use in emergencies but not as a form of birth control.

Emergency contraception is a large amount of hormones that can be taken up to 120 hours/5 days (depending on the brand) after unprotected sex has happened. Additionally, the insertion of a paragard IUD can be used as EC, and it's even more effective than the typical "morning after pill." For more information, I'd recommend Bedsider as they break down pros/cons and how to get it very well.

Bedsider is definitely a great resource! I've had to use the Morning after pill a couple times (also known as Plan B). As mentioned it has a bunch of hormones in it so it makes sure that the sperm doesn't fertilize an egg. It's not 100% accurate as with most birth control methods. It is also less effective based on weight, other medication, and the time you take it. It should only be used in case of an emergency. Using it too often will make a negative impact on your reproductive system. If you want something more regular, then definitely look into IUD, Patch, Shot, or Pill types of birth control. Always make sure you use a condom too as it's the only way to protect you from STD's
