Nexplanon - April 12th 2018, 11:03 PM

I recently got this inserted as a form of birth control. I know irregular bleeding is a common side effect. I talked to my doctor about it and said that was an okay side effect as long as the bleeding didn't last months like some of the horror stories.

I got it inserted and stopped my other birth control. It's been about a week or so and I started bleeding. I am wondering if this is a period, irregular bleeding or my body adjusting to the medication.

I am not overly concerned but I am trying to figure out how long I should expect the bleeding to stop before contacting my doctor. I know it's different for everyone but any insight or thoughts would be great.

I have the implant as well. I got it in December. Although I probably got it for a different reason then you. I lost my period and have PCOS so my doctor put me on this. Because she would be okay if I didn't get my period if I was on birth control. Sorry I didn't mean to get off topic.

Anyways I have only had my period 2 maybe 3 times since I have had the implant. Mine last 2-4 days at the most. And sometimes I didn't even need to use a tampon because it was hardly there.

Like you said everyone is different. I think it may be a period. Because I know when I started the birth control pills I got my period right away. My thoughts are maybe your body is adjusting to the large amount of hormones that are in your body right now. I think if the bleeding doesn't stop like a normal period.(so if yours usually last 5 days, if this last longer I would call just to be on the safe side).

I hope this was at least a little helpful.

Your Friend,

Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing,
It's okay not to be okay
Sometimes it's hard, to follow your heart
Tears don't mean you're losing, everybody's bruising,
Just be true to who you are

You are probably right that it's my period as it's relatively heavy. It's not as heavy as it can get which is a relief. My periods last about 7-8 days without birth control but on birth control it lasts about 5. I will probably wait 8 days from today and then call. That way I'll feel that I gave it a bit of time since my periods used to be quite heavy.

I am hoping it doesn't last that long as I've had a lot of luck with birth control making my periods slightly shorter and less heavy.

I found this helpful. Thank you for responding.
