unusual long term spotting - September 23rd 2010, 08:17 PM

so ive been on the pill for about two years and recently switched to Seasonique(i think thats how its spelled) and a some time last week i started bleeding, now im pretty good about taking my pill when im supposed to and its a different color and flow then my period. it then stopped saturday and sunday and then proceeded to start again. its still bleeding but its changed again so its lighter and a little more mucus like..

any ideas on what this could be or similar issues? its so frustrating..getting in the way of my sex life haha >_<

If you've only just recently changed to a new pill, it could be that. Your body is still getting used to this change and may have a bit of 'malfunctions' until it's used to the new hormone changes.

That's probably all it is, and might take a little while to even out. But if you have any further questions, or concerns you could go back and speak to your doctor.

Take care.

Sometimes when you switch to a new pill as your body adjusts spotting can occur. I'd talk to your doctor about it if you're concerned.

I think that most likely it's because you've switched brands and your body is adjusting to the new pill. A lot of girls experience spotting the first month they start the pill, so even though you've been on it for a long time, the switch probably explains it.

Another option might be that you didn't start it correctly? Did you follow the instructions for changing brands exactly?

Or have you been skipping your period by moving straight on to the new packet rather than waiting a week? Sometimes, if you've skipped your period for too long, you can get some breakthrough spotting.

If the bleeding is only minimal and there are no other symptoms (like an unpleasant, unusual smell and so on), then I wouldn't be too concerned. As long as it stops in your second month of taking the new pill, you'll be fine.
