Thumbs down period question... - July 20th 2011, 12:35 PM

I started my period when I was twelve, I'm now almost sixteen. I've been having EXTREMELY irregular periods for the past three and a half years (whole time I've had my period). Sometimes, for example, I'll have my period on, lets say, the first of May. I'll only get my next one on, maybe, the eighteenth of June. Sometimes I even skip out full months completely. I also get excrusiating pains, some so bad I can't even walk. I get nausious when I have pains.

Okay, so my two questions are;

- When do your periods (plus/minus) start getting regular?
- Is it normal to feel nauseus when you have period pains?

Re: period question... - July 20th 2011, 12:45 PM

Mine still aren't regular after 6/7 years, most of my friends' settled about 18ish though. I know people older than me that still have irregular periods though, so it does happen.
I'd say it's common to feel nauseous, especially a few days before and a few days in. And cramps can get awful. If they're too much to handle I'd go to your doctor for a chat. They can discuss the reasons for being irregular, and also advise you on pain relief etc. There are some drugs specifically for really bad period symptoms, and I don't mean paracetomol ... also sometimes they recommend the pill / similar to regulate periods and lessen then cramps etc. It might be an idea to chat to someone about your options, periods are the worst part of being a girl

I'm going on 21 and without birth control, my periods have never been regular. I went over a year without a period once! That's when I got on birth control. Sometimes that's the only way they get regulated. Although, most peoples' bodies will regulate themselves when they're 20-22 or so.

As for nausea - it's normal. Not everyone gets nauseous, but it's common. When you're on your period your hormone levels change, and when they change it makes your body go crazy :P

You have the mood swings, cramps, tenderness, agitation, nausea, headaches, fatigue, etc. Thankfully somebody invented Midol :P

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...

I got my first period at 11. I skipped the next month after that, and then from then on, I always had a period every month for the past 10 years. I was extremely lucky in this aspect. Usually, around the age of 18 is when your periods begin to regulate, but you could be put on birth control to help regulate them now, if you want too and if you think your parents will allow it.

I got my period at 14 & they were still irregular when I was almost 19. I went on birth control a few months ago & now they're even. I recommend birth control if you really want to even them out.

I started my period when I was 12 and a half, and up until I went on the pill (which was about 2 years ago I think), they were never really that regular, but the pill has really sorted them out!

It is common to feel nauseous during your period, its all those hormones going about and the change in your body..I've always found a few days before my period comes, I kinda get a mini cold!

I got mine when I was 13 and I think mine's already pretty regular. (Maybe I got lucky?)
I dunno why mine is like this, but I don't mind it at all. xD
Cramps don't make me nauseous, but sometimes they're so bad I don't even want to move. Since I can't take Midol because it apparently affect my Crohn's my doctor always said if they got too bad he could put me on the pill.
You might want to look into birth control because it could help your cramps a bit and also regulate your period.

I really don't think there's a certain age. It's different for everyone. Even mine, and I've had mine for five years, still isn't regular.

I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons.
And maybe we’ll never know most of them.
But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from,
we can still choose where we go from there.
We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.

Re: period question... - July 20th 2011, 08:19 PM

I had my first period when I was 10. It was really irregular and annoying. I also had incredibly bad cramps. I would get nauseous and I would have to stay home, because if I moved, I would throw up. I talked to my doctor about the pain and she gave me a prescription that didn't really help very much.

I went back and she put me on the pill, saying it would make me more regular and help with the pain. It worked to make me more regular, and I love knowing exactly when my period is going to come. It didn't work for the pain though.

Now I am on a new medication for the cramps and I still have to take a day off of my life every month just to deal with them. I am still hoping it will get better with age.

I started my period when I was 9 i always had bad cramps and I was always nauseus, mine pretty much became regular when I was 14 but my symptoms got worse so my doctor put me on the birth control shot to help deal with the pain and symptoms so your best bet would probably be to try different birth controls or just wait until they even out :P

Re: period question... - July 25th 2011, 07:42 AM

Mine will stay regular for a while and then decide that the third Tuesday of every month just isn't good enough and moved to another day. That's normal for me. But to answer your question- yes, it's normal for your periods to be irregular for a while.

Nausea? Yyeeessssss. The bane of my female existence. But mine was usually brought on by pain, so if I can get to the pain quick enough then I won't have that problem. If you feel it starting and pain usually follows, you can take 2 aleve, advil, whatever to stop the pain in its tracks. Birth control also helps. Exercise and heating pads can do the trick too.
