Is this normal? - January 22nd 2012, 11:03 PM

So, I have my period now...well I think it is my period. I didn't realize I had it because normally I experience really bad cramps and headaches. The discharge I have now is strange too...a dark brown discharge.

Is this normal? I've had my period since I was nine and never experienced this.

My periods used to be like this. This could be something leading up to your period, if this isn't how it normally is. If you're terribly worried, see a doctor! But it doesn't seem too out of the ordinary. The only thing you may want to question is that if you've been sexually active, this could be the kind of spotting that happens during pregnancy, but if you haven't been sexually active this month, it doesn't sound too worrysome. (somebody more smart with pregnancy, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Yes, I was sexually active with my boyfriend in the beginning of last month and the previous month. In December, the condom fell off but the next day or so i got my period which lasted about four to five days. Like I think this is my period now but it's soo different from all my other periods.

It's most likely your period. Sometimes periods simply look and feel different than we expect them to, especially if we are used to certain symptoms or appearance. It could be based on hormones, stress, other bodily changes, you name it, but it does happen. I wouldn't be alarmed by it, especially if it's near the usual time of the month and it lasts roughly the same number of days, though keep in mind this might be shorter or longer depending on the flow. If you are still concerned, however, you can always check with your doctor.

Yup, completely normal. It's old blood mixing with your discharge, leading up to your period. I've had this a lot. If anything weirder, like funky smell, itching, pain etc...happens, talk to your doc.

Its normal, I've had this as well. It will change in a day or so to become your regular period.

Completely normal. I googled this and read about it when it happened to me, hehe.
Basically what it is, is your body cleansing itself and getting rid of the build up of old blood/lining that has accumulated from past periods. It's not harmful, and will gradually get more red (instead of dark brown) until you have your period.

Speaking from personal experience there.

And I will try to fix you.
