12 week scan today. The 3D/4D gender scan says... - April 11th 2010, 05:08 PM

It's a GIRL!!

I'm so excited! The doctor said with the "nub" theory that at 12 weeks it had a 97.8% rate of being correct and it goes up to 100% at 15 weeks.
Even with that, I'm not going to buy gender specific anything yet, but I'll pick out a name at least, and in the back of my head keep the boys names just in case.

It's so magical. I can't explain this feeling...I've always wanted a little girl. and now I more than likely have one
(Don't get me wrong, I would be ecstatic to have a boy too, but I always have dreams of having a girl so it's really exciting for me )

Hehe, I have a story for you. When I was pregnant with my first baby, I didnt have a 4D scan or anything, just the normal 20 week ultrasound. The ultrasound tech told us it was a girl, then she said 80% chance. So we had all this girl stuff ready. I gave birth exactly on my due date to a little boy named Adam. lol Talk about a shock! We had absolutely nothing for him. He came home in a sleeper from the hospital!

Good luck with your pregnancy.

Haha thank you all!
I think I might have a name picked out
I was having one of my Disney Princess marathons, and while I was watching Sleeping Beauty, I felt my baby flutter like 15 times! (it felt like I had butterflies in my tummy!) She didn't do that for any of the other movies.

Because she fluttered a lot during the I Wonder/Once Upon a Dream scene, I'm going to name her Aurora Avery

Congratulations!
Just don't be surprised if you get further along and you find out it's actually a boy. Most doctors that I know of wouldn't even try to figure out what the sex is at 12 weeks. There's a lot of growing to be done still. And that little nub could easily develop into a penis.

Not meaning to crash the happiness of this thread or anything. That's great if they're right. I'm just saying that a 12 week fetus still has plenty of developing to do.

But congratulations.

Congratulations!

Also, I agree with the above poster. I wouldn't trust a doctor who said that he could 100% determine gender by 15 weeks, it's just not possible. Babies can be very good at hiding their real sex, they like to put their legs in the way . A friend of mine found out that she was having a boy instead of a girl only a few weeks before giving birth.

And Aurora is a beautiful name. Sleeping Beauty is such a wonderful movie .

My doctor is a very close family friend, and I know he wouldn't lie...plus the nub theory does have a 100% correctness rate at 15 weeks. I checked online to a lot of trustworthy sites (parentdish, whattoexpect.com, babyandbump, etc.) and found that you can trust it completely, so I know my doctor wasn't lying.

I never said your doctor was lying. They've been wrong early on before and later found out that the baby was the opposite sex they were told. Never said anything about anyone lying. And the only way to tell the sex 100% is to get an amnio done... No ultrasound is 100%.

But I'll leave it at that.

^- that lol.
Some lil ones just have tiny peepees. Some little ones just move a hand into the wrong spot. Some little ones are just surprises.

I got my gender done around 17/18 weeks and it was completely accurate. No guessing as to what the gender was because of how far developed he was and how he was sitting.

Get another scan around 18/19 weeks to make sure she's still a girl Then it's more than likely safe to start buying girly things.

Do you plan on getting another ultrasound to double check?
I was at my little brother's girlfriends ultrasound when she found out it was a girl. So exciting.

That's so exciting! Congratulations! I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly, as does the final birth!

Aurora Avery is so pretty (and I must say, I love the Disney reference)! I think it's a good idea to have a boy name picked out as well, though. The doctors originally told my parents that my sister was a boy. I remember because, at 2 and a half years old, I absolutely refused to believe it. I desperately wanted a little sister! lol My parents didn't have a back-up girl name, so they actually used one of the runner-ups from when they were naming me! Of course, this was back in '96, so technology wasn't what it is today.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you like for a boy name?

wow how exciting! That's crazy that you can tell at 12 weeks, I had to wait until I was 20 weeks along!

Aw that's a gorgeous name!

Oh and true no ultrasound is 100% but you really do get accurate results from early scans now. First time I saw parents getting told the sex of their baby I nearly cried so I can only imagine how you're feeling!

First thing I thought of when I saw that option was the Aurora Borealis, hence I believe Aurora is an awesome choice.

That is so exciting! I really hope that I will have a girl when I decided to start a family. Good Luck with your pregnancy. You sound like you're doing great so far

I suggest going to the store and getting a pregnancy test, and that also that you create your own thread about your situation. It would be unfair to Audrey and the others to hijack this thread about your problem.
