I work in a pre-school and have come across 'biters' and kids that do bite. We give the child a toy (usually their favourite toy) and tell them ' Bite this' We also put them on the time out and give them an explanation as to why usually a 'no bite' is what we say.

the girl who always seemed unbreakble finally
BROKE
the girl who seemed strong
CRUMBLED
the girl who always laughed
CRIED
the girl who never stopped trying finally
GAVE UP

she let her fake smile fade and as she did a tear rolled down her cheek and she whispered

' i can't do this anymore'

Re: Help!! BITING >.< - August 17th 2011, 05:33 PM

While babysitting a 2 1/2 year old, I had this issue as well. Basically I put her in time out (the more times she did it in one day, the longer she had a timeout). I explained to her when she put her teeth on me (point to my teeth) it hurts and it is a "No".

After about a month she learned.

A few times she would not do a timeout on her own, especially at first. So I would stand there with my hands lightly on her arms and telling her she had to sit there until she calmed down. Then when she calmed down, I explained why she was in time out. I would ask her if she was ready to be nice, and she would nod. Then I let her down.

Also, since he knows "ow", say it when he does it. Do not say it playfully, but more of just letting him know it hurts. Remind him that "ow" is not funny - because it HURTS. Then do a timeout.

Hope he stops biting soon!

Kelly

I usually fake cry and tell him he gave me a boo boo so he feels a little guilty. He knows what "boo boo" means and knows that they hurt. Then he'll give the spot he bit a kiss to make it feel better, its his why of saying sorry.

Actually he hasn't bitten anyone is weeks, so maybe it works

Break the habit.

I used to bite all the time. It stayed with me until early teenage years. I had to break the habit at boarding school. Seriously, break it before it ruins his life. Mine wasn't ruined, but a lot of my brother's ex-friend's remember me biting them and always ask him:
"Aren't you the guy with the sister that bites people?"
He doesn't talk with me much anymore.
