Question Should I take a test? - October 13th 2011, 02:17 PM

Towards the middle/end of september I had sex with a few people (like 3)
I am on Seasonique, I just switched to it at the beginning of september, and I am not always the greatest about taking it because I am super busy and dont always think of it. even though I have timers signs alarms everything to remind me.

On tuesday I started getting really dizzy in my psychology class. When I was walking back to my dorm after class I colapsed, my friend witnessed it she said I looked fine and then I was on the ground. I've been unable to hold food down and nautious puking since then, and I work at a chicken place so its been really pleasent

I was pretty sure I got my period last week, even though I'm not supposed to for another 5 weeks. but it was just a little spotting.

I have other explanations for why I'm feeling this way, like that I am stressed out, just started a new diet, etc. but I have a feeling that I might need to be worried about this too.

So should I take a test? or am I just over-thinking what might be the cause of this illness?

I think you should take a test. What you've been experiencing ARE symptoms of pregnancy, but without a test, we can't say for sure as these same symptoms could come from anything. If you've been stressing, you need to calm down. Stress can alter your cycle, and it's not a good thing. It could also cause you to have some of these symptoms as well. But, since you had sex within the last month and a half, it's time to take a test to see what's going on.

Re: Should I take a test? - October 14th 2011, 03:40 AM

Okay thank you.
I'm starting to freak out because I am in an open long distance relationship and if I am I dont know how to
a) tell my boyfriend that I am and its probably not his
b) tell the guys that it could be that I am, or if I even should tell them

I will never say I hope I'm not because I spent my entire life being told by mother that I was a mistake and she never wanted me, So I make sure the though "I hope I'm not pregnant" never crosses my mind because I never want to have to admit that there was a time I didnt want the baby if I ever am pregnant.
But I wish that if I am it wouldnt be this complicated with the figuring out who the father is if I am, or if I should even bother if I am.

Your sitaution is a unique one. I'll try my best to answer your questions (I watch ALOT of Maury )

a) tell my boyfriend that I am and its probably not his
Since you say you're in an open relationship, he knows that there is a possibility that you've slept with other people. I'm not sure how upset he'd be when you do tell him, but firstly, wait and see if you're pregnant first before you go jumping the ball on him.

If and when you do find out you're pregnant, I'd tell him right away. He has the right to know, of course, as there IS a possibility it could be his. Of course, it should also come from you, so he doesn't have to hear it from anyone else. This could ultimately upset him, and we don't want that happening. Just be honest with him. Say something along the lines of "I know this is going to be somewhat of a shock, but I found out (say today, or whenever you took the test) that I was pregnant after taking a pregnancy test. As you know, there is a possibility it's yours, but there is a possibility that it could be someone elses too"

Also give the option that once the baby is born, or before the baby is born, to have a paternity test done. You can have them done with home tests after the baby is born, but to get them done before, it would definitely have to be done in a doctor's office and the men would have to present.

To address the other men involved, I'd say something along the lines as you'd say to your boyfriend, if that's what you label him as. Obviously, they should be aware your in an open relationship with someone but if they don't, it might be best to let them know that now. Again, hearing it from you is going to best. Of course, you DON'T have to tell them, but if you decide to keep the baby, it's best to have a father in the babies life, not only for financial supprt, but because every child deserves to have their father in their life when growing up. I know this isn't always the case in situations like this, and I'm sorry you have to go through it, but I wouldn't stress to much about it just yet. I would buy a series of tests. Some packages come with more than 1. Some even have up to 3 in the package, so you can triply make sure you're pregnant or not. From there, you can decide and go through the optionst that you have.

As Shannon said, definitely take a test, but don't go around telling people until you know for sure.

Take a test, don't mention it to anyone yet, if the test comes back positive you need to let all the guys know you will be going to get it confirmed by a doctor.

Your urine might have been more diluted when you took the one at night, when your urine is more diluted, you have less HCG hormone in your body (the pregnancy hormone that the pregnancy test looks for). This is why everyone says to test with the first urine of the day (because you have been holding it all night which means it will be very concentrated) or after you have NOT peed for ATLEAST 4-5 hrs. These will get the best results and are most accurate for early pregnancy testing. I advise getting a PINK DYE test, First response or Answer are my favorite and test again in the morning.

"omg i might be pregnant!?!?!"

"ok..calm down..pee on your keyboard...nope its negative"

I agree with what Amber said but just wanted to add that some tests have less sensitivity which causes the test not to catch the HCG hormone which makes it negative when it's supposed to be positive. Take them with first morning urine and avoid blue dye tests, use pink dye. Hope you get your answers soon.

First off it is very rare to get a false positive, however false negatives are more common, you should buy another test and take it first thing in the morning for certain results that you can rely on, but chances are with those results that you're pregnant.

You must be quite relieved!

Since this issue seems to be resolved, I'm going to close this thread. Take care.
