My oh my where to start! - January 4th 2012, 12:40 AM

As most of you know, I am pregnant with my second TH baby I was originally planning a home birth with a midwife and was soo looking forward to it. Unfortunately two weeks ago I started bleeding and was sent by my midwife to the closest hospital's Labor and Delivery unit where it was discovered that I have a complete (type IV) placenta previa.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placenta_praevia
Unfortunately this meant that a vaginal birth was impossible, let alone one at home. A c-section is my only option now. I was in the hospital for a few days since they wouldn't release me while bleeding, and got 2 steroid shots to mature my baby's lungs, but finally went home about 3 days later on orders for STRICT bedrest, only getting out of bed to go to the bathroom and another adult was to be in the house with me 24/7 because the chances of a placental abruption ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001903/ very serious and can cause death to mother and baby) are greatly increased when you have a complete previa. Well I was home for a whopping 12 hours before I started to bleed again and had to be readmitted to the hospital. I stayed a few more days and my OB said that I could go home to spend christmas with my family and son but as soon as I start bleeding to come back and be prepared because that would be for good. I was so so thankful for that, I got through Christmas at home and made it to the 27th before I started bleeding again. Came back to the hospital was admitted, the bleeding stopped and then around 10 pm on the 28th I started bleeding again and this time it was accompanied with contractions every 1-3 minutes. I got two doses of Terbutaline that finally stopped the contractions and got the bleeding stopped. I have been in the hospital off and on now for two weeks. Still pregnant though! My dr and I talked about it today and we decided that as long as all goes well and I don't need an emergency c-section sooner we will deliver the week of the 16th of January!

"omg i might be pregnant!?!?!"

"ok..calm down..pee on your keyboard...nope its negative"

Sounds like you've had a rough, and interesting past few weeks. I am SO thankful that both you and baby are going to be okay!

They thought my sister was suffering from placenta previa, and at an appointment, they seen that the placenta was in front of the cervix, though they said it would likely correct itself. I only know how scary this could be!

I'm hoping you'll be able to make it until the week of the 16th! I can't wait to see pictures of this gorgeous baby!

Stay rested hun, and keep us updated!

oh geeze, I have to say I feel very blessed to have had such smooth pregnancies, and I am so sorry this has been so rough for you! I am glad things were good up until this point.
My mom had complete placenta praevia when she was pregnant with me... but this was early in her pregnancy and by the time it was time to deliver, the placenta had moved completely. I don't think this will be the case with you, but I hope for a healthy baby and a smooth c-section. So sorry this has happened, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

You're doing good! Hang in there and this hospital stay will be well worth it in a few short weeks.
