What will you name your kid(s)?

Sooo I'm in another one of my baby crazes that I can't help but pay attention to. I've just been daydreaming about the kids I will probably never have, and their names. It got me wondering, what would other people want to name their kids? (In a perfect world and/or in reality?)

For a guy I adore the names Ivan, Alphonse, Kristopher, Joseph, Daniel, and Nathaniel. For girls I tend to lean towards Lea (or Leah), Faith, Neveah, Adah, and Elizabeth. In a perfect world I would name a daughter Micaiah, Carmen, or Carmela.

My boyfriend spells his name Kristopher; I prefer that spelling over Christopher.

I am not sure what I am going to name a boy, if I have a boy, I do know though, that when I have a girl, either her middle name in both Hebrew or English, or just her Hebrew first name is going to be Penina, which means face of G-d, which was my best friend who passed aways Hebrew name <3

Well My daughter is Cecelia Michelle, my son is Emerson Ryan.

Now if we had any other kids a girl would be Veronica Renee NN Ronni my husbands has a few girl names he likes that I can't remember... but they were good names, a boy we have a few names on the table, Dayton, Blake...

Don't know about a girl, but if I had a boy it would be Vincent Volki Kinsey. Volki sounds strange, but there's a deep meaning. My boyfriend's very close friend from Germany was named Volki, and he died a couple years back. We want to give a boy his name in memory of him. His nickname would be Vivi.

I will probably give my children names from Greek mythology.

There are lots of pretty, girly names and strong, masculine names.

All of the names I chose come from either a family member, friend, or religious background. xD I do think normal spellings are in order, though. It's kinda like that Brian Regan skit, if any of you have seen that.

I've wanted to name my first daughter Olivia for as long as I remember, and I still love that name. I also like Cassandra for a girl, which can be shortened to Cassey. For a boy I like Jack. It's simple but I really like it. Middle names may come from family... so I might have something like Olivia Doreen or Jack Douglas. Not sure though.

Haha I wasn't going to say anything but 80% of these names are awful. Like they picked up a book called 'Names For Chav Babies' and decided to go to the chapter on strippers.

For real, what happened to normal baby names? Normal doesn't have to mean common. It can just mean not totally ridiculous and trashy. And for the record, taking a normal name, say, William, and turning into, say, Wileyamm, doesn't mean your child's name isn't William. If you call his name out on the play ground, all the William's are going to run forward. It's not 'original', it's just the regular name spelled like it was thought of my someone with dislexia.

A tip I heard once is imagine your kid in a position of power. The fact is that the name Kittenillia Arghmahndahh Sparrow-Storm Smith is fantastic if your kid wants to either be a) a hooker b) a free spirit who rebels against 'the man' and doesn't ever want a regular job, but what if your kid wants more? Can you see this written on the door of a court house?

If you don't like a name or a spelling then you don't have to use it. There's no reason to get on people's cases for choosing a name you don't personally like.

I think normal spelling should be used though. The trick is to find a name that will work as your child grows older. Just because the name is cute for a baby or toddler doesn't mean it will be cute in 50 or 70 years and vise versa. Can you picture your toddler with a name that was common in older generations, or an elderly person with the name you've chosen for your newborn?

There's also the issue of balancing commonality and originality. As someone with a VERY common name I know what it's like to have 3 or more people in your class most years that share your name or a version of it. I don't want that for my child, but I also don't want a name that is SO unique that he or she will be a bully target.

How exactly am I getting on peoples cases for not liking their choice in names? I only stated that I found some of the names cringe-worthy...

I've always had a soft spot for the name Alice. I'm not even sure why, but I adore it.
