Citalopram & alcohol - December 13th 2011, 09:02 PM

Hey guys, just a few quick questions (apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forum)

I have been on 20mg of citalopram for a week now and it's making me feel a bit better apart from the horrible side effects. Should it be working this quickly? I got told it takes 2-4 weeks to start working?

Anyways, on to the main point. I am having a big night out on saturday, this has been arranged for ages and all my friends are coming down for it, however I am unsure if I should drink or not. It'd be weird if i didnt cos everyone would ask me whats wrong and i dont wanna tell everyone, but I'm scared that if I do drink I might pass out or something. My meds make me feel pretty tired.

So has anyone drank while taking citalopram before? is it safe? cheers!

What should I avoid while taking Celexa?

Avoid taking tryptophan while you are taking Celexa.
Drinking alcohol while taking Celexa can increase certain side effects. Celexa may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert.

(Citalopram is another brand of Celexa, which is the main brand for the drug.).

Edit: So basically, avoid alcohol.

The side-effects will go away, by the way. Takes about two weeks for me. Your body just has to adjust to the drug.

You deserve love.
Now that we've got that done with, may I eat your brains?

I think it varies for everyone how long it takes for an anti-depressant to work. I am on citalopram and drink when I am on it. It doesn't seem to have any effect. I guess you need to be careful though since you have just started taking it and everyone reacts differently.

Soon... Now will be then...Today will be yesterday... Present will be past...And thought will be memory... So...Live for the future! Make your future how you want it!
