Do I really have bulimia? -
October 29th 2013, 10:51 PM
This has been going on since I was about 13/14, I believe, and now I am 17. I don't go on crazy binges, it's just that when I feel like I've eaten too much, I purge. I honestly don't feel addicted to purging either, I will do it maybe 1-2 times a month and other times I talk myself out of it.
I find it difficult to identify with the cases of people binging and purging excessively because I feel in control of myself. I just purge to make sure I don't gain any more weight.
So, with that being said, do you think I should be classified as a bulimic?

Hey there,
First, sorry about the late reply!
Here on TeenHelp, we are not qualified to diagnose you with an eating disorder. By what I know about eating disorders, you would not classify as bulimic. Bulimia has to include the binging and the purging. However, purging behaviors can be paired with many other eating disorders. Just because you don't engage in the behaviors very often doesn't mean they're not happening; cutting is unhealthy any time, doing drugs is unhealthy at any time, and so is purging. I'd highly recommend you reach out for help.
