Grieving is. - January 23rd 2016, 06:24 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Grief is like the endlessness of vast ocean waves.
You are constantly between feeling sad or brave.
You think the water is calm and better than before,
Then a wave hits you hard and you fall to the floor.
You find yourself remembering and asking yourself why.
Why'd he have to die without letting me say goodbye?
Sadness is the anchor that makes you hold your breath.
What kind of good is supposed to come from his death?
But you don't need any water to let yourself drown.
You already did that when they put him in the ground.
Still, you try to tread water but you're pulled under.
You really were quite attached so it's no wonder.
You finally surface but you're breathless and blue.
If only I stepped in to stop it, if only I actually knew.
Catch your breath because it will happen again soon.
You'll get dragged under when you think you're immune.
You don't ever finish grieving for someone, you know.
You wait until it's time to kick when you're dragged below.

If clarity's in death, then why won't this die?
Years of tearing down our banners, you and I
Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts
Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first

I related to this. And I liked how you used the ocean as a metaphor. Hope you're okay

I relate to this on so many levels and want to thank you for writing it - it feels really good to have some articulate (particularly so beautifully) feelings that I can't voice myself. This may be my favourite piece of yours so far.

Wow. Such a powerful and emotional poem. I liked your metaphor along with the poem as a whole. Hope you're okay.

This is so powerful, Cass. I really relate to it as well and it really put my jumbled thoughts into words. You know where I am. <3
