Did two interviews for help desk jobs! Any advice or so?

I am someone who is interested in computers and tech, and recently got two interviews in entry level help desk. They seemed to go well, and am doing a second interview next week with somebody else.

It seems like it's basic things I know, and they even explained some of it to me. I am sure you will also be trained or at least shown how to do stuff.

These were posted on Indeed, and I already have a part-time remote job. One was said to be remote, and another would be on site at a nursing home/senior living faculty. The thing that worries me about that is the fact every month you have to do a class. They gave an example of an employee who made a slide on how to stop phishing emails and scams.

Now that's no issue to do the classes, but my butt would need to find topics and subjects every month.

I am sure there are seasoned IT help desk people here, right? I have never done this before, but it's a field I've been interested in for a while.

Congrats on the interviews! I hope they go really well - it sounds like something you'd be great at. :)

I work with older people and IT is something we get questions about all the time. We have drop in sessions run by a volunteer to help people with devices - so it's definitely something you can find topics on! One piece of advice I have is to maybe open yourself up to suggestions from the people you'd be helping. You could have a suggestions box so people can request specific topics for example. If you'll be working as a part of the IT help desk anyway, you'll find you probably pick common queries up as you go, so you wont just have to pluck something out of thin air. Maybe keep a notepad by you so you can make notes of common problems, and then you can explore these more in a class.

Thanks to the power of the Internet, I can find topics which is awesome. I think asking people I'd be helping would be great too. I am totally comfortable with either position, they seem to be very similar. One is mostly for like hospitals and stuff, and the other for a senior living community.

My big issue is I have not used any Microsoft Office product in...YEARS! Not even used it much in High School. I actually was not even asked about that which I am surprised. The job ad did not mention it, so am assuming it's not needed. I'll just say job 1 sounds good, and is full-time. job 2 is the senior living job. Job 2 I was told by the interviewer this would be part-time and a good entry way into IT. It's a bit of a pay cut, but something I would enjoy.

The bad news for job 2 is I'd need to wait until April 11th or so for the second interview. This first job I was told someone would email next steps. Oh, and job 2 is on site and not remote. Job 1 I was told is. Again, either one I'd take!

The only thing I can think of is to maybe google topics that the elderly would benefit from? Sorry, I can't be more of a help. :hehe:

Job 1 I scheduled a follow up email to be sent 1 week from the interview. Job 2 I did a thank you email for the interview a few hours after the interview. I should have waited 24 hours after the fact, but oh well. :P Job 2 I am supposed to have a second interview next week.

Job 1 I think had a Talent Acquisition person reached out after I 'applied' on Indeed. I think I got a basic email saying 'hey, found your resume on Indeed'. I get those off and on usually as it is, nothing super new. Both positions/jobs sound great as I said, just may accept whoever can send an offer first.
