I suffer from misophonia, which means I am getting very irritated or angry when exposed to certain sounds. I have recently moved to a post-industrial urban neighbourhood with a noisy street and a very noisy junkyard next to my apartment. I regret choosing this apartment and will try to move, but I don't know if it will be possible anytime soon.
I work remotely - the noises make me unable to concentrate on work during the day and to fall asleep in the night. I was thinking about getting a pair of noise-reducing headphones/earmuffs. After a bit of research I know there are a few types: for office work, for construction sites, for sleeping. I'm afraid the first and third types won't be enough to muffle the sounds. Maybe the ones meant for construction site workers?
I would like to know if you have had a similar issue or perhaps used this kind of earmuffs. What's your experience? Would you recommend them?

Hello Sue,
I am so sorry about all of this and I hope that you will be okay soon. I only use these kinds of headphones for when I'm using the leaf blower and the kind that I have are the Dewalt hearing protection black/yellow ones. They work very well and it blocks out so much of the sounds. When my parents or sister's are yelling for me, I can't really hear them and they have to come and touch my arm to get my attention. You can go on Amazon and they have them and others like that. I hope that you are able to find something to help you and I hope that you will be okay soon with all of this happening. Sending you to help you.

I have sensory processing disorder and very annoying/loud neighbors. I eventually got earplugs so I could sleep, but I had to get the smaller size or they didn't fit right and/or fell out. They don't completely cancel the noise out, but I was surprised how well they work. I also use them at the movies, so I can still hear everything fine, but it's a lot less loud.
