Hello, the truth is people will lie for different reasons. I found some articles on this if you wanted to read about this. They are, https://www.forbes.com/sites/christi...nce-behind-it/, https://www.paulekman.com/blog/why-d...e-lie-motives/, https://psytherapy.co.uk/why-do-we-l...other%20person. If everyone did just stop doing this, that would be wonderful, but it will never happen.

I'm not saying first, but in-person retail! Although, I suppose that's less "lying" than just saying what we really want to. And, there's a difference between telling the truth, and being a smart ass while doing it. Customers are difficult enough as it is. If they heard even more of what they didn't want to, there would be no business.

My personal opinion is sales if anyone was wondering. I have worked alongside them and found most are highly unethical. Law enforcement would need to change as well, but it probably would not topple that "industry". If cops couldn't lie, it would have about the same impact as every single person invoking their right to remain silent. Interrogators depend on you waiving that right. Otherwise, interrogation would not even be a thing.

Quote:
on everything and mentally saying go fuck yourself is I worked for a rental car company at what is not a big city. I once heard, and I nearly quote “ you cant have such a small car during the Thanksgiving holiday! It is dangerous to drive out there! You will get killed” told to an older upper middle class lady. Please upgrade to an SUV so you can stay safe (ie. So they can make commission). Wow. In reality, the streets are ghost town during that holiday!! Mouth just about dropped open. Fuck that entire industry. It is so messed up! Glad I no longer work there. They make 6 figures literally by just ripping people off and finding ways to trick them. Disgusting. I didnt do the sales so I didnt earn hardly anything. If you are renting a car, keep in mind the people at the counter make way more than most people think and it is all from lying to people, including you! Decide in advance what car you want and if you want loss/damage coverage (usually a no) and dont let anyone talk you into a penny more! If you are stayijg a week, I promise a slightly more comfy seat in a much more expensive vehicle wont be the highlight of your trip. They are salespeople making great money at other people’s expense, not normal counter workers. I see no difference (besides legality- which is ultimately just a social construct) between scammers trying to cheat grandma of her money and salespeople. They are the same. One is just a legal form of exploitation but just as unethical. Salespeople and unlicensed “disaster recovery” people are the most unethical individuals who “make an honest living”. |
