Re: Corona Virus.

I'm dreading having to wear a mask at work during the summer.

My gym's AC is pretty awful and it doesn't cool anything down at all. In fact last summer the AC was so bad that it was blowing hot air because it couldn't cope. Add the fact people are exercising. All those hot sweaty bodies. Absolute nightmare.

As staff I'm required to clean equipment and tidy the gym, which means constantly putting people's weights away (since people are too lazy to do it themselves..). It gets tiring and you get very hot after a while. Last summer we were required to wear vinyl gloves and an apron. Due to the poor AC, the summer, and wearing all of that, I nearly passed out at one point. You could see the moisture from my body trapping in the apron, it was really nasty.

I'm dreading having to go back to that, and wear a mask. My mum suggested I try and get an exemption because I keep getting nose bleeds. -_- The combination of the AC sucking up moisture and me wearing a mask had me having one every two weeks. It was so bad. Not very hygienic either.

Oh no, that’s awful! It’s finally slowing down in my city due to the vaccine.

The vaccine rollout here has been slow and painful. I don't even think I am eligible to receive my first dose yet. My partner and I had to get tested on Thursday but thankfully, we both came back negative.

I got my COVID vaccinations months ago.

The first dose really knocked me out for a few hours but I felt fine afterwards. The second wasn't as bad.

I hope your jab goes well! I've had my first dose of Pfizer and other than a tiny bit of pain around where the needle went in I had no symptoms. I know some people who have had a completely dead arm and some people who had a fever and aches and pains for 24-48 hours afterwards, but all of them said it was worth it for the immunity. :) Good luck with yours!

Every morning this week, I've woken with cold-like symptoms and freaked out; but they go away after an hour.

Does anyone know someone who's been vaccinated and got COVID?

What were their symptoms like? Did they need to be hospitalized?

I have received both doses, as a healthcare employee. I didn't have much of a side effect with the first one other than a sore arm, but this is because the needle goes directly into your deltoid muscle. However, the second one I did feel a bit off for. I was tired most of the next day and my arm was sore. However, it is different for every person, one of my friends was out for a few days. Don't let other peoples experiences make you nervous or hesitant as there's a chance you might not have any symptoms at all.

Much better..

I do know a few people who have had COVID even with their vaccines. The vaccine doesn't make it so you're 100% protected against getting it, which I'm sure you knew. It makes the symptoms a lot less severe and the chances for survival a lot higher. However, with that being said, every person is different as some people who had COVID without the vaccine were asymptomatic (no symptoms). Even if you have COVID without your vaccine you might not necessarily have to be hospitalized.

With the current delta variant that is running wild through multiple countries it seems to be affecting more of the younger generation, but also it's a lot more contagious.

*takes off healthcare hat*

I've had both doses of the pfizer vaccine now. The first dose was fine, no side effects, just that my arm was a little sore for a few days. The second dose...I don't know if it was related, but that night, I couldn't sleep because I felt both hot and cold (like shivery) at the same time. It only lasted that night and I was fine in the morning. The only other side effect was that my arm was sore but that's to be expected.

Hope your jab goes well! :)

I kind of freak out when I get any type of symptom too. Sore throat and I'm like OH NO. If you want to get tested you can, but it may just be allergies.

I don't personally know anyone who has, but from contact tracing I have met people who have. Most of them haven't been hospitalized. Two unfortunately were but are doing okay. As was said already, the aim of the vaccine is, if not preventing Covid, to make sure that the illness is a lot milder compared to other people who didn't get a vaccine. Most people who get sick are still unvaccinated, but those who do get sick and are vaccinated sometimes don't even know they have it until they travel or maybe have a little bit of a runny nose.

A colleague I used to work with tested positive the day she was supposed to be getting her 2nd jab. It's definitely possible to catch it even with a vaccine and obviously it isn't 100% effective. This person got quite sick but avoided hospital and said to me that she feels the vaccine was the reason she was able to avoid being admitted.

I'd definitely say if you're worried it's worth getting a test done! If nothing else it can take it off of your mind in that you'll know for sure if it's just a cold. :)

I've also read that Lambda is vaccine resistent. If that virus becomes the dominant one it could be a matter of time before we get one that is even more resistent. The mutation of the virus seems to be what people don't get.

It also sucks that this has turned political because I don't think we will see anymore shutdowns.

It's related to covid so thought I'd post here instead of making a thread.

Kids are getting sick. Someone told me children's hospitals in some states are having to transport out. I can't find an article to confirm this.

I have 3 family members that aren't old enough to get vaccinated so this worries me.

Sounds accurate. In other cities where I am protests about masks in schools have turned violent. I follow the health department FB page for my city since I live here and work there and the anti-Covid vaccine people have finally made it there.

I understand why people are tired of wearing masks (and generally hearing any kind of covid news) - I am not the biggest fan of masks either, I think they're unhealthy for our respiratory system. However, I believe they're necessary to finally put an end to the pandemic. I went on a trip to a neighbouring country a few weeks ago and everybody there was very serious about wearing masks (not only were laws strict, but the people wanted to wear masks for themselves). It made me sad to see the difference between that country and my own, where people don't wear masks to show how 'independent' and 'free' they are.

I agree with everything you said besides this point, which I am unsure of. Medical professionals have to wear them all day every day, especially professions like surgeons who even before this had to wear them all the time to protect their sterile field. In other countries people wear masks a lot too, especially if they have a cold or something possibly contagious to protect other citizens.

I wish we'd do that here, at least when you're feeling sick! If that was the norm I'd have had a healthier childhood.

My dad does have a hard time breathing in the masks though with his preexisting conditions like COPD and a heart problem. I can tell he gets out of breath. He wears it as much as he can but if he stops in an aisle and nobody else is around he'll take it down to breathe for a minute. I have mild asthma and it doesn't bug me, but for someone with more severe asthma or other conditions it's probably very hard.

I often get out of breath using the masks being an asthmatic as well.

I'm advocating for not overwhelming the hospital systems.. Anyone who has been paying attention knows this is happening.

In my town we are operating at over 100% capacity had had over 10 people waiting for ICU beds. Those beds being taken also take away from other emergencies like car accident victims etc.

People seem to be ignoring this. It's weird to me. We've even been hearing about people who are dying because they couldn't get into a hospital but who cares as long as there is not another shut down. Lives don't matter. :)

In the UK, people over 40 who had their 2nd jab 6 months ago can get it. I'm not over 40 but I am a health and social care worker, so in 3 months I'll be eligible. Some of my colleagues have had theirs though, and my mum has. Hopefully it keeps the numbers down a little bit over the winter.
