Re: Period pain - February 17th 2012, 06:55 PM

Hey, these pains you're experiencing are very normal so there's no need to worry at all. The cramps (or pains) that you're feeling is just the muscles in your uterus contracting and is a completely normal thing to happen during your period. Sometimes, the severity of the cramps vary from woman to woman because each of our bodies is different So that would be why some of your friends do not get cramps. It's said that one of the ways that you can decrease the amount of cramps you get or help how much they hurt is to simply exercise. I find that sometimes this works, and sometimes it doesn't but it's something you could try. You can also use pain relievers such as Advil or Tylenol to help. If you find that your cramps are really unbearable, you could always see your doctor about this and he/she would be able to help whether that be giving you a stronger pain reliever that you could take while on your period or something else. Take care!

As said, these pains you're experiencing are completely normal. We're all different, so just because your friends don't experience the kind of pain you do doesn't mean they aren't feeling pain at all. You have a few options to help with this: birth control or taking some pain medication during the time of your period.

Birth control isn't just for preventing pregnancy. You can use this to regulate your periods, as well as helping with cramps, acne (some help while others cause), and over all making your period a somewhat better experience. OR you could take pain medication made specifically for woman who have horrible cramps: like Midol or Pamprin.

I totally know how you feel. I often feel like I'm having contractions, the pain is that bad. I find that painkillers really help, as do hot water bottles.
We also have a great thread here with more suggestions on how to lessen the pain.
It's something lots of us have to live through, but sometimes a trip to the doctors can help to be prescribed birth control, like Shannon said.
I hope it gets better for you!
