Question Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 27th 2010, 05:51 AM

This thread has been labeled as non-PG13 by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for younger users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

So, me and my boyfriend of two years were talking and it just occurred to me that I have not had my period this month. I just recently got my first depo shot. I am not sure if I am pregnant or not as we have been having sexual intercourse before and after I got the shot, including the day I got the shot. I know with the depo shot you usually no longer have periods, but I have not been feeling well lately and have been experiencing heart burn that I never have had before. I am just curious as to the signs of pregnancy before I alarm him. Any advice/ help is greatly appreciated!!!!

I would say yes. His sister has a 9 month old baby. Only thing there is she is 15. There Mom is so proud of him for not having a baby and getting a job and such. So, I don't want to cause a fuss over something that may turn out to be nothing. He loves his nephew to death and spoils him all the time.

Re: Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 27th 2010, 06:16 AM

I assume you've been having unprotected sex (as in without a condom or other barrier method)? If you were having unprotected sex before the shot then I would get a pregnancy test. I don't know anything about depo, but I figure that pregnancy tests would still be accurate.

Even if you'd just been having unprotected sex after getting the shot, I would still get a pregnancy test, but that's only because I don't know how effective depo is.

I think the biggest struggle I am having is that I do not want to worry him just to find out it is nothing. We sort of alternate between condoms and no condoms. It all depends on if we have them or not. If we do, we use them, if not, we don't.

Re: Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 27th 2010, 06:40 AM

Well, you don't have to tell him that you are taking a pregnancy test. Or you could just tell him that you've been feeling unwell and that you want to take a test just to be sure. I'm sure he won't completely freak out just because you want to take a test. And if there's nothing to worry about, then he will find out pretty much straight away, so he doesn't really get much of a chance to freak out.

It would be better to take the test now than to wait and find out you are pregnant a few months down the track. Especially if you're worrying about this now, it'll give you more peace of mind.

I think I am definitely going to take the test. I just have to get the money and the ride to the store. He is at work right now and is my ride.

yea just get the test as soon as you can. see what it says before worrying too much. you might have just missed your period because of the hormones in the shot.

Re: Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 28th 2010, 04:15 AM

Well..... depo can cause your body a world of hurt.
So the symptoms you're having now could be caused by depo..

some early preg signs are
-fatigue
-nausea/vomiting
-sore/tender boobs
-constipation
-implantation bleeding
-missed period

If you have symptoms now, it's probably safe to test. It's best to test in the morning with your first urine of the day, as that's when HCG levels are highest.

Good luck!

Re: Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 29th 2010, 02:53 AM

The shot will not prevent an existing 'pregnancy' from happening. I don't quite know how to explain it. It's not the morning after pill that prevents you from releasing the egg and it implanting etc. The depo is pretty fast acting but I'd really get a test if I were you.

I have been on the shot for ages due to various medical problems. When it starts to wear off is when I start to relapse and get sick(er than usual). I am going this week for another. I have to keep them so close together at this point or else I start getting cramps or feeling really crappy.

The depo sometimes has side affects from getting it. I'd say there is a likely chance your body is just adjusting to it. Best to get a test just incase. And oh.. you still should practice safe sex even though the shot is quite effective

Re: Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 29th 2010, 09:51 PM

Thank you guys for your advice. I went and got a test today. I just am having problems taking it. If that makes sense. My boyfriend is out of town until tomorrow. I am kind of wanting to wait until he gets back so he can be here for me. But then again, I don't know. I mean I want to know because I have a few of those symptoms. Sore breasts and fatigue. And I have not been feeling all so great lately and what makes it kind of funny is last night before my boyfriend left I was not feeling good and he was joking around saying "maybe your pregnant". Ha. lol. I am just a little worried I guess because I don't reaaly want children. I like the kids that are yours for the weekend. Ya know? I am just debatingwhen I should take the test.

If you had a depo shot before you did, then most likely you are not. That's highly effective.

Well we had sex before I got the shot. I mean we use protection. Even now we do. He is not ready for children and as I have said earlier I don not believe I want any. And I am not ready to have any. So because of that, we make sure we are protected. We figured that the shot would be extra protection.

Yeah. I don't think you are. If you are you can consider adoption.

I don't know if we would even be able to bring ourselves to do that. Especially him. He is too caring and always finds a way to do anything. No matter what. All of this is why I wanted to talk to him about it. But I still am not sure.

The best thing to do is to take the test now. If you're not pregnant, then you're just wasting all this energy worrying about something that might not be happening. And it would take a lot less energy to take the test.

If you are pregnant (which it doesn't sound like you are, if you used other protection before getting the shot), then you can start to deal with that and process it. I still think finding out for sure would be less stressful than all the "what ifs".

Well, I don't know how effective they are, but I've never heard of someone having a positive pregnancy test and not actually being pregnant. I think you need to book an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible. If you don't want to, you don't have to tell your boyfriend until after the doctor confirms it.

Try not to freak out too much (as hard as that may be), if you need someone to talk to, just PM me .

Well I just got off the phone with him... I told him. I didn't really mean to. It just kind of happened. And I was freaking out. He didn't really know what to say. He finally got me calmed down and he said no matter we will figure it out. dHe kind of reassured me. But we both know it is a huge step we are not ready financialy and all around ready for. I am just worried still. I am going to make an appointment. (his idea actually.) And we are going to go up there together. He says he doesn't want me to go through that alone. When he gets back tomorrow he says we are going to sit down and talk about it..... Kind of nervous for that.

Re: Could I Be Pregnant??? - March 31st 2010, 02:19 PM

You are the same person dealing with the obsessed ex, right? This might complicate that situation further, if he sees that you got pregnant the obsessor will feel that his view of how things are "supposed to be" have been permanently violated and therefore he might see his life as "permanently broken". This type of reaction is something I can not predict. What a situation, this is well beyond my level for expertise that's for sure.

I suggest talking with your parents about your pregnancy. Parents are usually supportive, they have the experience of raising you and they will probably be willing to take a strong role with raising your baby. The fact that your current boyfriend is supportive is a good thing. Often times in situations like yours, a boyfriend tends to abandon his female partner to avoid dealing with the responsibility. Now that you are pregnant you need to make sure you stay together, you will need support from him as much as he needs support from you. Make sure your feelings for each other stay strong and that you both know that you want to be with each other for the rest of your lives. Your relationship is now entered an irreversible biological bond.

At a last resort, if you feel you and your BF would be unable to raise the child by any means, your state should have a "safe haven" law meant to deal with exactly your type of situation, where the government would then take charge of the care for the newborn child.

Best wishes to you.

Ironic huh? Crazy people and babies. lol. Well me and him sat down and talked for what seemed like forever. He said he is not going to abandon me. He is kind of worried. Which he has every right to be. We have no plan of breaking up or "taking a break". He said having a baby will only make our love grow stronger which I thought was really sweet of him to say since I was freaking out about everything that I could possibly think of. I calmed down though. I think next week on one of his days off (which just switched again)we are going to make a trip up to the health department to either confirm or deny it. He is actually really calm about everything. Which is good because one of us need to be.

You are definitely doing the right thing by going to see a doctor about this. And I hope that everything works out. I am going to go ahead and close this thread, as your question has now been answered. I wish you both luck and happiness.
