pregnant choking?

I was thinking about this today... what should you do if a pregnant lady is choking? I thaught it would be some good info to know considering pregnant women do a lot of eating... XD lol... would you go ahead and perform the heimlich the same as with any other person or what? what if they are not very far along and the person giving the heimlich doesn't know she is pregnant? I just thaught this was a good question...

Re: pregnant choking?

If someone is pregnant, you still do the Heimlich Maneuver. You alter it, however, and instead of doing the maneuver around the stomach and doing stomach thrusts, you perform the maneuver around the chest and do chest thrusts.

Quote:

Clearing the airway of a pregnant woman or obese person:

Position your hands a little bit higher than with a normal Heimlich maneuver, at the base of the breastbone, just above the joining of the lowest ribs.
Proceed as with the Heimlich maneuver, pressing hard into the chest, with a quick thrust.
Repeat until the food or other blockage is dislodged or the person becomes unconscious.
