Trying Dating Again - January 13th 2011, 04:18 PM

I think at last I've finally gotten over my depression that has been hurting me for several years. I've been working for almost a year on making myself better and feeling better. I haven't had much luck with girls. And even though I feel better, it still is kind of sad that just about all my friends are dating except me. I want to try dating again. Does anyone have any advice for me? Like I said I've been doing the whole focus on myself. I think I'm dressing better, look good(shape wise), I've started fencing and rock climbing, developed my artistic side(always had it, but I show it more), I write, I'm pretty good with movies and theater, and I'm learning how to dance. I'm just looking to step back into the dating game so to speak. Any advice?

First, it's great that you've taken up all these cool hobbies. Even if it doesn't help you get girls, which it might well (especially the rock climbing), it's making you a better person. Anyway, have you thought about trying a free dating website? I wouldn't normally advocate them because they provide a somewhat skewed market, but it's a low pressure way to start dating.

Become friends with your friend's girlfriends. Try to hang out with their female friends and get to know them more.

I'm out of it right now...but basically
hang out with your friends, become platonic friends with their girlfriends, and then find their friends, who will probably be female.

then, those new girls you meet wont find you creepy (you have mutual friends), and you can jokingly slam your friends girlfriends to make you seem confidant. bam, instant flirty acquaintance. exactly how i got my second and third girlfriends

I can't recommend this enough. This is textbook social circle game.

Don't feel bad because you're not dating anyone, even if your friends are. There's no need to be eager to get into a relationship. From what you've described, you're a very creative, intelligent person, and I'm sure you'll have no problem attracting girls and finding a nice girl for yourself in the future, but you have to wait for the right one to come along.
It happens when you least expect it, you just have to be patient.

It's just been so hard to not want a relationship. Every is out at least meeting people and I'm not. And in the last two months when I found someone I was interested in, I get anxious. I've been chilling. I've been focusing on me. And just trying to be normal. But I dont know how to fight the anxious feelings.

Hey,
It's good you've been focusing on you and putting yourself first because in order to bring someone else into your life you need to feel happy in yourself.
I would say just try to get your friends to introduce you to girls, not to set you up but to take you to places where you are going to get to know some girls on a friends level and socialise with them. When you get more confident with being friends with girls you will become more confident to speak and interact with them.

You sound like an interesting person so I'm sure plenty of girls would love to get to know you. Why not use some of your hobbies as a base of conversation for getting to know girls.
I hope things work out for you.

Good luck,
Paige
