No its not rediculous, yes your familys are in a different city, but surely you will have friends who can help out. I'm just saying I don't think its the place. Restaurants can get busy and crowded,...

If the mother can move discretely to another area then fine, there are baby changing units in most supermarkets, go there. As for in restaurants, I don't really think its the place to take a new-born...
