I want to encourage you to stop by the Arrivals and Departures forum and make a thread introducing yourself to everyone. It's just a nice way to start getting to know some people and to get your name out there
Another good way of doing that is by going in to chat and talking with the various users. But there are tons of ways of getting involved around here: the forums, chat, the blogs, avatar, the newsletter, facilitated discussions in chat....I'm sure you'll find someway to plug in around here.
