Do I have depression? - May 13th 2012, 06:59 AM

I am definitely depressed, and have depressed feelings, but from my understanding that doesn't mean I have depression. I have been feeling extremely depressed lately. Life doesn't have meaning to me anymore. Ive lost interest in everything, I am easily irritated, I feel tired and fatigue all day long, I have unexplained back (and hip and knee) pain (I read that tht is a symptom) and I'm just generally sad. I try to hide it from my friends and my parents don't pay a lot of attention to me, so I dont think anyone would notice. Do you think I have depression?
(I took a few depression screening tests and quizzes online and all of them say I am at risk and should talk to a doctor)

You could be heading into that direction... Before it gets worse, you should go see someone and talk about what you're going through. You can save yourself a lot of hurt.

All the best, Carpe Diem.

Hey there,

If you've taken tests, researched the symptoms and you think it's likely, then it's definitely worth going to see a doctor about it. Even if you're just feeling sad, that's a good enough reason to try and find the cause and change things. A doctor might prescribe anti-depressants or suggest some kind of therapy. Like Carpe Diem says, you should see to it sooner rather than later because it's important that you stay happy and healthy. Getting help brings you one step closer to recovery, and will hopefully prevent this from getting much worse.

I hope you feel better soon. Take care.

You should seek advice from a medical professional. When i was younger i thought my feelings of sadness were just a phase from being a teenager with raging hormones but if your feelings are affecting your day to day life then you should try to seek help as soon as possible. Do yourself a favour and book an appointment with your doctor as soon as you can i bet you won't regret it.

Hi AngryBird,
To reduce depression do start mild exercises or practice yoga. Watch what you eat and increase water intake. Do talk with your family members and friends and share you worries with them. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and other stimulants.

Going to see my psychologist on Thursday, we'll see what he has to say about me.
And I am going to get a breathing test sometime soon so I can get back to exercising which is apparently good to keep my mood up...
So hopefully, things will start to get better. Hopefully...
