Do I bring it up or not? - September 21st 2012, 08:33 PM

Okay, so tiny bit of background information. I'm a 20 year old college student with a decent amount of friends and a decent life. Nothing absolutely horrible has happened, of course there are life circumstances that are half of the cause of my depression and such but it's nothing to terrible. So anyways, I've been dealing with depression and self-harm for about 7 years now. Throughout the seven years I've been in and out of therapy and I'm currently on an anti-depressant. Therapy has never helped me. The one thing that does seem to ease my symptoms is having somebody that I know that I can talk to whenever I find that my life is way to out of control to handle. So here's where my problem comes in....

As I said, I have a decent amount of friends! But I don't feel like I can really talk to them about it. Like I get the "oh, you'll be okay, here's a hug." type of thing. Or the one person that know's the most (who just can't emotionally handle it) will give me a few minutes but just say all of the wrong things "you don't need me, blahblahblah." which really hurts...anyways I've always had an adult in my life since high school that I could go and talk to when things got to rough, which usually happens once a month (but it's more frequent now, for some reason). But being in college, I'm away from the adults that I could go and talk to at home...I used to have people at the college that I'm attending but that blew up in my face. So, there are two more professors that I really like, but I am not sure if I should bring it up with them..

So today, I went and spoke with one of these professors and just got some academic advice to get a feel for if he would be an okay person to talk to! I really like him and he's probably one of my favorite professors...and he was really chill when I went and talked to him today. He did say that if I ever needed anything he would be happy to talk with and encourage me...so that was a plus. So I guess my question is, would it be worth it to go and talk to him again? And should I wait a few weeks since I just went to him with a "problem"? If so what should I say?

I realize that he cannot take the place of a professional and that is not what I am looking for at all. I just need somebody that I can talk to about life and different circumstances that come up. Like right now, I'm dealing with a lot of school/friend issues and I just need to have somebody to talk too. Advice ?

all i want is a place to call my own and
mend the hearts of everyone who feels alone,
woah,
you know to keep your hopes up high and your head down low.
